I've been looking at some different white openings (as i'm sick of 1.e4) for this season.


I narrowed it down to two: the KIA or Colle - and yes I sank to new depths of shame and went for a pure Colle.. 🙂 (not even a Zuckertort)

He has played the Torre, but not the Colle except by favorable transposition (look at the position at move 7). Colle positions are nice to have, but the Colle move order is not necessarily the best way to get there, especially when there are cooperative French players to be had:

very instructive the way Kaspers goes about weakening the dark squares on blacks
kingside and utilising that e5 square, even when black gets an out post on the
queenside it counts for naught! I have lost so many times to the French i care not to
think of it, black always get awesome counter play on queenside, knights manage to
penetrate into all the holes.
