I notice Mary Ann got banned. I guess that was to do with the cheating allegations she made recently.

Edit: My mistake - I see 3b is only used for players who have been accused of using a program.

It seems strange that banned players are left running until, presumably, they run out of time.

I recall a thread where someone mentioned that monsieur heberts broken English seemed a bit thick for someone that is a well known chess journalist, and thought it was so overblown that he was an obvious phony. That person got reamed and his posts were deleted later.
Funny!

Problem is that the real Jean Hebert writes his stories in French from what I can tell. The person was right, we had an imposter but the reasoning was wrong.

His English was fine in his final poat on the site:

"Red Night, you obviously do not understand real chess.
Jean Hebert"

In any event, if he wasn't the real Jean Hebert, how did he pay for the site? If the imposter used his own credit card, wouldn't that set off alarms?

Was the site so excited to get an e-mail from an IM that they comped him?

There are some users that use well known chess players names, not to impersonate them, but more as a sort of idol, and not even claim to be that person. Jean Hebert here actually did claim to be. Although at the time of subscribing, he probably didn't, hence did not set off alarm bells.

A username can be anything, so Russ isn't likely to question if some person uses the name "Jean Hebert" and yet have a different credit card name.

You could always make an email account with Jean_Herbert in then make a paypal account that would make him seem like Jean, I think that would work. I don't think I paid for this account with my paypal account but it hasn't set of any alarm bells. (It was my mums account).

no one has an exclusive right to a name. there are probably more than one jean hebert, robert fischer or anatoly karpov. some of them might even play chess.
