My advice is to stop talking now.

May I ask where I screwed up? not how to get out of it, not anything about the current position, or future position, but which moves, say, BEFORE move 18 I could have played better?

Can't it wait until the game is finished?

Ofcourse you can't ask that. If we say what you did wrong, you can get more insight into the position, so it would be advice for you. The same as consulting a 3rd party, which violates rule 3b.

Edit: Just finish the game, then we can analyse it for you.

I supose it could, but if anyone would be so kind as to go over the first 17 moves, I would much appreciate it.

Bump this thread once the game is over and people can do it then.

How can I gain insight into the position if I see where I went wrong?

Would you ask someone to analyze the first 17 moves of your game in progress at an actual tournament?

I'll give an example:

Here's a game between John and Johnny.

1. e4 e5
2. f4 exf4
3. Nf3 g5
4. c4 g4
5. d4? gxf3

suppose the game is on the 25th move later, and John is still a piece down. He asks in the forums where he has gone wrong. He doesn't know anything about tactics & the value of pieces. Now, someone tells him that he should move his knight away if it is attacked. On the 25th move, right now, his knight is attacked by a pawn. So he moves it away.
Here's another example:
John and Johnny are playing another game. John has a nice winning combination involving only pieces on the kingside, but he hasnt seen it yet. Neither has Johnny. they move around with their pieces on the queenside for 10 moves. John asks what he should have played 10 moves ago. So someone tells him about the nice combo. He now plays this combo and wins the game.

OK, I see your point there, but that's not what I want, I thank you for clarifying that up, but I did say I didn't want any specific moves, and so I'll withdraw all game analysis requests for now, and I don't think I'll need any help on the current position at the moment, although a simple answer at the start could have helped speed things up (I have found a way out of it).

No, because in an actual tournament you have clocks to deal with.
