"On the market"? This is a free program. The most current version is 21.5.
You must have gotten lucky and found a bug in the old version. I tried versions 19.3, 20.14, and 21.5, and none of them will touch 40...Ke6 with a ten-foot pole.
In any case, enjoy bragging about beating an ancient, buggy version of a chess program (version 19.1 was releas ent in 2002, and your profile says you're 15... did you download it when you were 10?
Now, to counter all your crap about this... why the heck would I possibly want to post about a game I didn't legitimately win...
I personally find it a little bit wierd too ... I ran the game through again and Crafty immediately played b4 and won. I see why you think it's fishy... Still though, not many people on this site have beaten an engine of GM strength, in blitz no less. Blunder or not it IS quite an accomplishment. (Not to take a stab or anything..) An accomplishment I'm sure you haven't achieved.. so PLEASE give it up... a simple congrats is good enough 🙂.
... To add some proof that this isn't completely above my realm of skill.. take a look at the following draw against Fritz 5.32 (the queen sac is gorgeous). This game took place about 6 months ago I think...
1.e4 c5 2.f4 d5 3.Nf3 dxe4 4.Ng5 Nf6 5.Bc4 Bg4 6.Qxg4 Nxg4 7.Bxf7+ Kd7 8.Be6+ Kc7 9.Bxg4 Qe8 10.Ne6+ Kb6 11.d3 h5 12.Bh3 exd3 13.Na3 Qc6 14.Be3 d2+ 15.Kxd2 Nd7 16.Nc4+ Kb5 17.Kc3 b6 18.a4+ Ka6 19.a5 b5 20.Rhd1 Rh6 21.Ne5 Qe4 22.Nc7+ Kb7 23.Rxd7 Qxe3+ 24.Nd3 Qd4+ 25.Rxd4 cxd4+ 26.Kxd4 Kxc7 27.Ke3 Rd8 28.Rc1 Rc6 29.Ne5 Rc5 30.Nf7 Re8 31.Be6 g6 32.Kf3 Rc6 33.Bb3 Rf6 34.Ne5 g5 35.g3 gxf4 36.gxf4 Bh6 37.Nd3 Bxf4 38.Nxf4 Ref8 39.Ke3 Rxf4 40.Rg1 Rf3+ 41.Ke4 R8f4+ 42.Ke5 ½–½
IF THAT isn't enough... here's proof that engines aren't all that bright.. this was against Chessmaster 10th I believe... I was white here as well
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nge7 4.O-O Ng6 5.d3 Be7 6.Nc3 a6 7.Ba4 O-O 8.Be3 b5 9.Bb3 Bb7 10.a3 Na5 11.Ba2 Nc6 12.Bb3 Na5 13.Ba2 Nc6
14.Bb3 1/2-1/2
If this isn't proof enough I have no clue how I'm going to 'prove' the validity of a game that I really don't feel I should have to...
If you truly think it's impossible.. take whatever engine you prefer and send me an unrated game on this site using it.. I will happily try my luck one more time 🙂.
Originally posted by ih8sensWell, that's the thing, though. As far as I can tell, you did not win a game against a GM-strength engine. For whatever reason--misconfiguration, bug, etc.,--whatever you were playing against was not playing at the strength of any reasonable modern engine.

In that case, to keep claiming that you did beat a GM-strength engine is a little lame, IMO. Of course, you're welcome to say whatever you like.
I didn't look over the other games, nor am I going to start an unrated game against you with an engine (I doubt this is even allowed, and even if it were it's too close to a violation for me to want to get into). I'm sure if you want to find a legitimate current copy of Crafty to play against you will be perfectly able to.
Originally posted by incandenzaYou have a point. I looked over this game several times now... I find it a little fishy that you haven't even heard of Crafty 19.01 ... if the version is fake (unlikely, though possible) I'll be peeved.

Anyways, I analysed the game (and others) using Fritz 5.32 and it found everything so I'll be using this engine from now on.
No hard feelings.
edit - just played my first game (5 min blitz) vs. Fritz... got KILLED holy cow......

But I will mention that my Fritz 8 program (the US version issued by Viva Chess) comes with several alternate engine choices, one of them being the Crafty ver 19.01 engine. (I've never used this version of Crafty, though.)

Originally posted by Mad RookHmm, OK. I'm just going by the versions that have source code released on the Crafty FTP site. I don't know what 19.01 would be; maybe it is 19.0 with some modifications made by the Chessbase people.

Originally posted by incandenzaI have no idea either, but I looked at the Crafty 19.01 engine file (it's actually named Crafty 19-01.eng) in the Chessbase directory with a hex editor, and I found a text string in the file that clearly stated "Crafty 19.01". So it's definitely version 19.01.

Originally posted by Mad RookRight, but that is something you could easily change when you're compiling the code yourself. I can whip up a version in just a few minutes that has 'Crafty v666' in the binary.

The Chessbase people would probably need to make their own build just to get it into the '.eng' format if nothing else (not really familiar with what the '.eng' format involves). There's really no way to tell what else they might have changed other than the version number.
Although technically they would be required to release the source under the GPL... So if they did change anything and didn't give out the source, it would be a violation (not that anyone would likely be able to prove such a thing).
