I'm currently 2068.
I was 2220, but stuff happens.
1700's using a program.

I'm playing people in "tournaments" that are rated in the 1500's.
If I win I get 0 points, if I lose, I lose 20/25 points gained 3 or 4 at a time.

I "challenge good players", I get a reply, "I only p ause they do not want to lose their rating, that means nothing.

Just a thought.
Isn’t there a "meet opponents" thread for this sort of thing.

"Or maybe it is because they do not want to lose their rating, that means nothing."

Or maybe the ratio of good players compared to bad is slightly unbalanced. (Only 60 players over 2050 on the site and apparently 11464 players) Add to that the fact that many of the top players also have more games going than the number of opponents over 2050 and your idea that they are scared to lose their points flops a bit.

Throw your little moan onto the pile side by side with the other comment...........

"Why don't the players rated over 2000, just start playing each other, and leave the weenies alone.
Or maybe it is because they do not want to lose their rating, that means nothing. "

Classic in a word.

As I understand it most of the top players do play each other but it tends to be in clan matches.

No. I am just trying to say that I can't see how either player can win. :-)

I don't think I mentioned Horsey.

Thanks for your opinion which, of course, means nothing.

...Oh yeh, i've been meaning to ask you... On my travels i came across this game Game 1625906. Why did you resign? It's a draw, there is no way to Queen the pawn as long as the white rook remains on the g-file, no?
Ahhh, you resigned because the draw was over the horizon of your chess engine, silly me!! 😵

I guess Mary never bothered to generate tablebases for her engine.

I'm surprised, you'd expect fritz to find the draw easily...

I think the draw is pretty deep, and 'she' probably needed the computing time on other games...

no, wait, after 7minutes on 2.8ghz p4 fritz gives -0.08. although it's probably too long if you have to run your engine for dozens of games? she probably let it run for a minute or two, getting -2.13 or so, and mistook it for a lost game.

If I stick the position into Fritz it tells me it's a draw straight away. That's the tablebases doing their job. However if I turn those off we have a very different situation. Welcome to the horizon effect.

That's very interesting. I used fritz to analyse an adjournment that i played recently. I didn't realise that it was so poor at playing endings!! Don't suppose anyone knows of somewhere i can download table baces from? Looks like i need them after all! 😕

He also starts crying and resigns immediatly if you suggest his white repertoir is "passive"

I don't need Fritz or a Tablebase to tell me this is a draw. Just 30 seconds. How can any player rated well over 2000 not know this instantly?

The point is Game 1625906 was resigned but anyone knows this is a draw. I can't understand why a strong player who has presumably left the site could not tell this virtually instantly.

Even if they were cheating by using tablebases the draw would be obvious and has been for a number of moves.
