They can't.And certainly not against less talented players. If I was to play one of the K's,they would be constantly surprised by my moves. It would be pleasant surprises, but surprises nevertheless.I think you heard just a part of an explanation,or someone informed you wrong. They can predict opening moves if they know what line the opponent always plays. ...[text shortened]... ps: No,there's no part missing in that last sentence,it is meant to read just that.

Great idea though, let's get back to chess stuff π
I like the Alekhine Defense π΅
Originally posted by !~TONY~!It's tricky stuff.Actually,I don't find it very suitable for corr chess. One easily gets caught having a passive position when your opponent can look up the best lines. But,hey,it's me pet π
I have the book by Davies on it. Pretty good. I play that sometimes. Not too much though. π
I like Alekhine's too - it seems to be all I'm playing on this site since there are so few d4 players. SLaLot's right about the risk of passive positions, although some serious correspondence players (Harding) have played it successfully. But you have to be willing to live with unbalanced and unclear positions. It ain't no Caro-Kann!π
I'm trying to think of other openings where black gets to force white to play his game from move 1. The Scandinavian, I suppose ("is any other first move better?" - Bronstein).
Has anyone tried the Latvian? π
