What is the right way to continue for white, instead of the troublesome 5. d3?![/b]
This puzzle was posted by Schakuhr so i'm not quite sure what the solution is since I don't play this opening.
From the opening db's I've seen 5.d3 is played but doesn't score very good for white.
Qe2, Bc4 and Bb5+ are also played but neither of them score very good for white either.
After 5.Qe2 Be7 is usually played. A little tactic would be:
5...Nxd5? 6.Qxe4+ winning the knight.
So I guess you should play what you are comfortable with and don't be greed and hold on to the extra pawn. It will get you in trouble.
Originally posted by chuckorcI got 2/4 so far. I can give you some extra time if you want. Couple of days good?
I've worked on these for a few hours today and nothing jumps out at me. π
Can we have a small hint and maybe an extra day, please?
I didn't make the puzzles so I don't know how long the solution right now. So I don't have any hints for you this time.
Game 6, Puzzle 2 User Solutions:
I am somehow weak(weak compared to me ) in this kind of position, that have no strategy in them and a lot of tactical lines...I will try to guess:
13 Kf2 Qb6+ 14 Kf1(14 Kg3 the same) Rxe2 15 Nxe2 Re8 -+
13 h3 Bxe2 14 Nxe2 Nd4 -+
13 Bc3 Ne4! 14 Bb2 Bxe2 15 Nxe2 Qx4+ 16 g3 Nxg3 -+
It would be nice that if these lines are not the correct ones to tell me also where I went wrong in them(and how white would refute them).
1st- 13 Kf2 Qb6+....... 14 Kg3 Bxe2 15 NxB Re3+ 16 Bxe3 Qxe3 17 Kh4 g5+ 18 f4xg5 Qe4+ and so on...
2nd- 13 h3 then BxB 14 NxB Nh5
3rd- 13- Bc3 then Nd4 14- BxN QxB threatning white with mate. if white doesnt attack the knight then it doesnt have much chance to win cause all the squares are captured by black.
I'm not sure how far to go, plus I've looked at these problems the las few day and can't come up with anything concrete so here are my best guesses.
13. Bc3
13 ... Nd4
14. Bxd4 ... Qxd4 black has exchanged a knight for a bishop and has started his attack on the kingside.
13. h3
13. ... Bh5
14. g4 ... Nxg4
15. hxg4 ... Bxg4 after the exchange black has destroyed the pawn structure on white's kingside and white's position is still very cramped.
13. Kf2
13. ... Qb6+
14 Kf1 ... Be2+
15. Nxe2 ... Ng4
16. Qe1 ... Nd4 with eye on c2 to fork the white queen and rook.
I don't know if these are heading in the right direction but hopefully they are close. This was a real tough problem for me. I guess that's why I'm still under 1300.

Great! As your prize I will send you guys The first Yasser Seirwan Tactics test. 15 puzzles ranging from I would say 1300-1900ish.
I used these puzzles in my collection of 1000.
Vipiu these should challenge you more compared to the puzzles I gave during our tactics lecture. I never knew you were 1700+ at that time but now I know better.
What about you chuckorc? Read the book and tooken the test?
Originally posted by chuckorcCool, you should continue using them π I heard CT-Art is great. I should have spent the money and bought it instead of finding my own 1000 puzzlesπ What a waste of time.
Nope, me neither. I have used programs like chess mentor and ct-art to try to improve my tactics.
