O we will see about that ! 🙂

Hehe, but you know what i'm talking about, you beat someone say 1400 and they add 400 point and give you a rating of 1800 after your first game because they aren't sure how good you are.

Just curious, but how could you only play 1 game and have it rated? Was it part of a tourament and that was round 1? What timer did you guys use?

Or was it just fun club chess which isn't rated? We have those also, 30 min chess which was give "club" ratings for just for fun.

The game was rated.. I went down my local chess club for first time 2 weeks ago, played some freindlys against some of the best players in my area with BCF's equivalent to 1800- 2200 FIDE, won or drew most of the games (half hour on the clock) So the boss asked me to play for ...[text shortened]... g moves. I'm not sure wasnt paying much attention to that. Didnt need half the time anyway.
If you're winning and drawing against 1800-2200 players, this goes to show you that redhotpawn.com is deflated in rating - not inflated. Look at your rating on here. It's less than your true OTB strength is looks like. What do you think, Smaug?

1389 USCF. Bit underrated it seems though...I'm much better OTB than I am here.

Got ya, well good luck. One tip though: Use your time wisely and don't play as if it's blitz 🙂

I used to be 1200 OTB while I was 1800 here. It's just due to a lack of tournament experience. Now I'm 1600 OTB and still rising.

I don't think it was that much improvement, more in the way of getting a more accurate rating. The only thing to do is to play more tournaments, with long time controls, and get experience in the tournament setting while earning yourself a more accurate rating.

Thanks, did you ever feel you had trouble seeing the board as you do on the computer?

Not to me, but several player including masters complain about it. You will get use to it eventually.

Yes, certainly. That is why playing a couple more tournaments will help immensely. You need time to get used to the setting.
