Thanks for the help Rahim and arc. Do you see the board as the computer similarly now?

1950 uscf rating. 25 years ago it was 2200, but they say you gain a pound per year when you reach middle age; apparently you lose 10 uscf rating points per year too.

I actually never had this problem. But if you are having trouble seeing the actual board, try moving you chair around and find the best spot. When you are looking at the computer you can see the whole board, but with a live board depending on how big it is, ours are over 2.5 ft squares I belive, It's hard to see the whole board, especailly if you are a small person or a child.

Yes, certainly. That is why playing a couple more tournaments will help immensely. You need time to get used to the setting.
ditto -

give me a computer screen and my favorite Babas Board i'm happy

Put a bunch of wooden peices infrount of me it confuses me -- maybe its just a placebo -- or a excuse....but whatever, i play badly

As for my rating i don't have a clue - At FICS its around 1700 for standard [low-ish rd] then on "kasparov chessmate" [ruffian engine] its around 1900 and on fritz 8 its about 1500 because i can't beat the bloody thing.

as for OTB i'm still a provisional....

so in short i don't have a clue what my "true" strength is - its all just a bunch of contradictory numbers - - i wish i could simply ignore them and play -- but i can't it seems to be a real sense of acheivement when you crack your own personal best..

In 1987 I hit 1850, then quit playing chess altogether for almost 20 years, just getting back into it. Don't seem to have suffered too much for the extended layoff.

Regular. I've only played in 1 quick rated tournament, and that was more than 2 years ago. Quick is 944 or something like that.

Not sure about that. Two of the three conversions I've seen published reckon 115BCF is 1520FIDE (Elo = 8BCF + 600). Though the other agrees with what you've got there.
