I think the pawns are male. Because they move in straight lines towards their goal, only veering off at diagonals when interrupted. Bishops and rooks are male too, because their moves are towards their line of sight, like sensible, solid guys. Knights on the other hand are definitely female. Knights fly off at tangents, say one thing and do another, never see ...[text shortened]... eir minds, and hop around in all directions changing their base colour at every hands turn! lol
i would have to disagree with knights moving haphazardly, they move just like suped up pawns. they get to move two squares instead of one and can go in any direction. they can jump stuff on their horses and since the horses head is in the way they have to attack off to the side like a pawn does from his big sheild. essentially the only difference in their overall concept movement is that knights move then attack while a pawn moves or attacks. the traits of the knight reflect their sense of independance over the pawn but their similar movement depicts that they still post a primarily military role.

i wish the bishop was still an elephant, but im glad that the transition from chariot to castle tower was made in the case of the rook since chariots are stupid.

Thank you for that info, it's a pity she was not a knight as she would have shown the men knights a thing or two.
I got curious. I cannot speak to the veracity of this article....it is a starting point:

And, no real answer.
