Ok, we've all had one. You know what im talking about, those opponents who don't resign even when their completely lost. Don't get me wrong, i'm all for battling out a game when your down but perhaps not out, but this just takes the piss!

There's a difference between having drawing chances and waiting till your opponent blunders a stalemate (which is highly unlikely in corrospondance). And then there's a difference between waiting till your opponent blunders a stalemate and playing on when your king has only 2 squares to shuffle between while watching your enemy promote to a queen and mate you. I understand your fustrations completely and I particularly liked the way you give him just 2 squares to move to highlight the fact that he's supposed to resign at this point. Nice.

It sucks - just checkmate the guy - just watch out for a stalemate 😉

It depends what your rating is. Someone less than 1400 has a small chance of getting lucky this way, so it's not that unreasonable that they take the chance.

No, you should not be proud of posting about it during the game.

I have no intention of playing Kd5 or Ke4 which leaves only one outcome. Posting a game and asking for help is against the rules, yes, but there is no help needed. Im just annoyed as it's insulting to have to go through the motions like this. My opponent only has one escape and that is to wait on until i possibly timeout which is unsporting in the exteme and evidently what their holding out for!

did you try messaging your opponent to point out what is going on?

maybe that might get them to think about what they are doing...

I won't post any private game notes but yes, i posted good game, followed by a '?' and then a polite 'err, without wanting to be rude, etc...' but nothing seems to work. It's no problem really, i'll just wait and mate him in time, i just find it rather insulting.

Some people actually think its rude to resign when the other person is close to mate.. I always felt I should give the opponent the satisfaction of letting them get mate.. (but usually I'll post saying I'll let you win by getting your checkmate, and if they say they don't need to wait, I resign).

I like to deliver mate as much as the next person. But when it's obvious that it's going to happen, i don't see why we need to take a day or two over each move. He is either trying to preserve rating or waiting for an opportunity to T/O.

I think you might get better success if you tell the opponent exactly what you are going to do in order to force the win and how you will avoid stalemating the game.

I've done that before but this guy doesn't want to resign, he made that quite clear.
