There have been some books mentioned that have not been added to the list. This is because they either haven't been given a rating range or they haven't been given a discription. In these cases i can't add them as i haven't read them. If you put a little blurb and a range i'll add them... 🙂

Those books, mentioned.
All 7 of Yasser's Wining Chess Series:

1. Play Winning Chess 0-1300

An introduction to the moves, strategies, and philosophy of chess, with clear explanations of the games fundamentals, instructive examples, question-and-answer sections, sample games, and psychological hints.

http://www.amazon.com/Play-Winning-Chess-Yasser-Seirawan/dp/1857443314/ref=sr_1_4/002-1071940-5378437?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173143388&sr=8-4

2. Winning Chess Openings 0-1400

Winning Chess Openings will help readers develop a solid understanding of opening principles that can be applied to every game they play--without having to memorize a dizzying array of tedious and lengthy opening lines.

http://www.amazon.com/Winning-Chess-Openings-Everyman/dp/1857443497/ref=pd_sim_b_3/002-1071940-5378437?%5Fencoding=UTF8&qid=1173143388&sr=8-4

3.Winning Chess Strategies 0-1500

Here, Seirawan shows how to set long-range goals for a game and systematically gain a superior position. His deft explanations give anyone with basic chess knowledge (covered in his previous books) the insights to leap levels in play. As usual, he tackles the subject with an infectious enthusiasm, communicating the sporting thrill as each piece of a meticulous plan comes together. Throughout the book, engrossing chess puzzles help teach strategic points.

4. Winning Chess Endings 0-1600

Winning Chess Endings teaches endgame strategies in an exciting new way--by putting the player in the middle of the action with firsthand stories taken directly from famous matches. Pull up a chair and watch the world's most exciting chess endings. Then become an endgame master!

http://www.amazon.com/Winning-Chess-Endings-Everyman/dp/1857443489/ref=pd_sim_b_2/002-1071940-5378437?ie=UTF8&qid=1173143388&sr=8-4

5. Winning Chess Tactics 0-2100 (I say 2100 because the test at the end of the book, Advanced test is a killer. 8 move deep about, 15 problems.)

The first part of the book deals with basic tactics and how they can be used individually and in combination. In the second part, Seirawan introduces some of the great chess tacticians and their games, further illustrating tactics as they work out in real-life play.

6. Winning Chess Brillances 0-1900

This book by International Grand Master Yasser Seirawan provides a move-by-move account of the best chess games of the last 25 years, played by the world's foremost chess competitors. With an authoritative voice that is by turns poetic and analytical, Seirawan serves as host of a fascinating excursion of the most brilliant chess game, providing highlights into and explanations of each and every move.

7. I heard he has a new combination book, Winning Chess Combinations. I haven't read it but judging from his other books, it must be bloody brillant at the British say.

This has to be the best chess series hands down. No competition. It covers so many different aspects, not just one subject -like just middlegame, or just tactics. The whole series covers everything! I would rate Silman a close second - Reasses your Chess book and workbook and Amatuers mind.

Most valuable that I red from that book so ...[text shortened]... lly helps you to understand your own issues, and various issues of players at the certain level.
I actually prefer that one to "My System" since the concepts that they try to explain in both books are the same... I just think Sillman does explain them in a much better way to the initiated.

Recced also...I think your post accurately describes these excellent books. I like Yasser Seirawans "voice" he is passionate and knowledgeable. The books do what they say on the cover and they are user friendly.

Not to take credit, but the little description I got from amazon.

I read all the books, but it's hard to describe them that nicely and I didn't have the time either.

Just so you guys know 🙂

All of the Seirawan books are great. I managed to pick up the whole set new in LA for around $20 total. That was on the old Microsoft Press before Everyman republished them. I ended up giving them to a friends cafe in Kalamazoo but sometimes I wish I still had them.

Some of them are very difficult to get here in England, even online. Amazon take absolutely ages & I gave up after my second email saying "your book will be posted within 4-6 weeks".
The superb tactics one was difficult to get in particular - I had to go to a shop on Baker St. in London to get mine!

Well, I just love that shop! I try to make sure to visit them each time I go to London (which unfortunately is every 10th year)

I am sorry about you sad shopping experience, I guess I have been lucky and always treated with excellent service. Perhaps they enjoy selling to a swanky swede.

I haven't read the others but this is a wonderful book. Not a lot of games are covered but the explanations are very clear, the ideas are easy to understand and it will really do a lot for your game. I was sorry that the book had an end.

I'd put Seirawan's Winning Chess Strategies in a rating group below Reassess Your Chess, as I think it's a good preparatory book, with similar concepts explained in a more basic manner.

Wow, what a great deal!!!

I borrow all my chess books from our chess club. The yearly fee includes book/dvd/video rentals and if they don't have a book you want, they order if for the library.

And you giving away those books🙁 What were your thinking :'(

I guess you are suffering enough now since you wish you still had them. That's punishment enough 🙂
