It would be interesting to see how big share of women plays chess compared with men. I think I know which gender has proportionally most..

You must not be aware of his past results? Even now, I think he is very strong. I hope he does well in his match against Bacrot. It would be great to have him in the WC.

1) It's been demonstrated that girls do better than boys in math, up until they learn the cultural notion that it's not cool for girls to be good at math, at which point they are surpassed by the boys.

2) The distinguished anthropologist Ashley Montagu wrote a brilliant book years ago titled, "The Natural Superiority of Women," in which he presented a very strong case supported by much scientific data that women were superior to men in every respect except one: brute strength.

3) I read a Freudian analysis years ago of how women play chess, psychologically speaking. Turns out that, due to the Elektra Complex (the female counterpart to the Oedipus Complex), instead of going after the King, they unconsciously strive to kill the Queen (mother counterpart).

My answer is: Everyone who thinks and promotes women tournaments.

If I organize a competition where muscles are involved, like running, lifting, or something, I surely have a ladies competition or else I will rightly be called a chauvinist. Why? Women have lower muscle capacity than men. Obvious, isn't it?

If I organize a chess competition and create a ladies tournament as well, no one will lift an eyebrow of that. Why? Because women has lower intellectual capacity? In this case it makes all sense.

But my opinion happens to be that women actually have the same intellectual capacity! No doubt about it!

Every woman entering a ladies competition, every organizer who forms ladies competition, every one who promotes such a competition must think that women have lower capacity than men. In muscle sports as well as intellectual sports (as chess).

So my answer to the question "Who says girls can't play?" is:
Everyone who thinks and promotes women tournaments believe that women can't play chess as good as men.

According to http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chess.[WORD TOO LONG]

Their totals are

+5 -5 = 8

how can you possibly make the case that Gata is better than Judit??

They are both super strong players, don't get me wrong, but I believe Kamsky edges out. Comparing their head to head matches is only half the story. For instance, take a look at Kramnik and Judit's game results.

I consider Gata better since of his results in 94, 95 and 96. He lost to Anand in the PCA title, who went on to play Kasparov. He quit chess after losing the FIDE WC match against Karpov. At one time he was rated 3rd in the world. He has much potential still.

I disagree. I have participated in ladies' tournaments on this site because it gives me a chance to meet other women players. I have played tournaments based on ratings so that I could meet other players within my rating. I have played generic tournaments so that I can play against people who will stomp me but who would not otherwise play against someone as lowly as I am. Each tournament meets a different need of mine. If my ranking, by some miracle, were in the 2000s, I would still play in women's tournaments because I would still be interested in getting to know other women.

women can be just as good if not better chessplayers than man that is a possibliity. i'm sure if your a talented chessplayer and all of russia is helping you study to become the best chessplayer possible its going to be hard for a woman or man whoever it may be to be as good as them when the other person has the whole friggin world behind them. the reason women havn't been as good as men at chess at the top levels is because they were never given the right to do certain things such as read or even learn in school in some cultures. they have been held back but i believe there may be a day when a woman can play at the highest level of chess with the men. as for sports, men have too much testosterone for them to keep up wth them.

But when you enter ladies tournaments you don't do it of reasons that has anything with chess to do. You want to socialize with other ladies.

If I organize a tournament where only jews are invited, or dwarfs, or homosexuals - it's very likely I get critizisms about racism, homophobia etc, and thow would be totally right. I give the signals that a jew, a homo, or a dwarf is not intellectually equipped enough to play with ordinary people, belonging to the norm.

But if I orgainze a tournament, ladies only, I don't get this critiques. nI wonder why? Isn't it the same messasge I'm sending? That there are real players and that there are inferior players?

I say that the ladies only tournament has nothing to do with chess, but other reasons, as you said, you want to socialize with other ladies.

The reason why the world's best chess player is a man (so far) is because of statistical probability. Men have so far dominated the sport, therefore have a much higher chance of being the best chess players. In a few decades, that can all change.
