The reason why the world's best chess player is a man (so far) is because of statistical probability. Men have so far dominated the sport, therefore have a much higher chance of being the best chess players. In a few decades, that can all change.
It is based a lot on history, culture...
If you start saying for sure: men are better than women, they are smarter, can focus better, etc...will you apply it maybe also for russians 🙂 ?
like:
mrussians are better than the rest, they are smarter, can focus better, etc
...lol...
(don't come and tell me some exception names here and there because anyway the russians are there...)

Someone once famously made one or two derogatory comments about women and chess. Whilst I do not wish to revisit those unfortunate incidents see the game below where a young girl scores a win.

I took my school team to an all girls school in Oxford. Thinking girls dont play, I was hopeful of having a chance. My hopes improved when I was told that their chess club was run by one of their pupils. Meeting her I asked her if she had BCF grade, it was no 2 in England!
After they whipped my pupils I played a few rapidplay games against Harriet, I was wiped every time. Her whole family are awesome.
Originally posted by petrosianpupilSorry but I just do not believe you! what year are you talking about, Harriet is a great player but she has never been rated more than Nigel short as far as I know and there are a whole host of other gm's and im's rated above her, at the moment she is somewhere between 25 and 30th in England (and I think the top woman, but exaggerations of this nature are not needed), she is exceptional so why make up these stories!
