My record with it is 12W-8L. And none of those 8 losses were due to the opening, but due to errors in the middle game or ending(2 losses were 60+ moves each).
Is this the game that has soured you to the defense?
Game 4245760
Certainly, losing in 13 moves can be a turn-off, but realize that 6 of your 12 moves were pawn moves; developement was more called for. You should also know that f7 is a weak spot that needs attention. Missing a mate in 1 there is not the fault of the opening.
Best,
Steve

I often play it by mistake when I am playing high speed blitz against a d4 opponent. Sometimes they have a change and play 1.e4 but I am so ready to play d5 that I inadvertantly play the scandinavian.
There is nothing especially wrong with it, the only failing I believe is that white can play into some very drawish positions if he is not bothered about winning.
Originally posted by wittywonkaUnfortunately I'm not quite relatively stronger but heres a game I analysed for one of my clans. Hopes it gives a little insight since its not uncommon for white to try and protect the extra pawn playing 2. ...Ktf6
I'm giving it a try as a break from the Sicilian, and so far, not too bad.
If anyone knows of any relatively stronger players here on RHP who use it occasionally, I'd love to look at some example games.
Game 4284460
main points:
4.ktc3 out of book I think, last time I played against black in whites position I played d4 with a good result Game 4215616 but I was prepared to play against it aswell since black could still have had a good position if he didn't get a little greedy. So I had to find a way to take advantage. 4. ...c5! pxp by en passant gives white awkward development and dxe leaves the d-pawn backwards plus black would be ahead in development aswell as psychologically I was prepared to give that pawn up anyway so taking it after the oppertunity makes even less sense for white. Black could have got white center pawn back but would not get the same development
5.d4 avoids troubles white would have developing on other lines but now black will get more pieces developed using whites queen as a tool for getting pieces out
9. ...0-0 gives white one last chance to take e3 but black would only develop the bishop and still enjoy a strong attack.
10.bd3? however as it turns out it might have been the best option to take on e3, be2 might have been better but from here I think black has actually won!
pxp and black opens up the center perfectly developed behind it whilst white still has to finish his development - he wont get the chance to.
14. ...bxb! a good move since it felt slightly counter in intuative to cancel down against a lower player. Allthough I must say Indosmart plays incredibly accurate! however, my moves wins. Removes the kt- strongest defender of the castled position, plus it was his only option since he did not want to recapture with the king
15. ...qe2 adds pressure on the pinned piece.
ignore whites actual move now. every queen move protecting the bishop fails to kt-f4 so the only option was 16. 0-0
now black wins by qxb 1)r-e1 fails to qxr. rxq, rxr. ktf1 and black has traded queen for b + 2r which is totally winning. hence
2)17.qxkt be6 and the queen has to stay connected to d2 giving 2 lines
i) 18.qg5 h6 19.qe3 (qf4 g5) bxa2 winning the pawn and the game due to how the kt is en prise after qxq rxq and white cant play re1 because that totally fails
ii)18.qa5 b6 19.qc3 (qb4 a5) r(a8)c8 20.qe3 and we have a similar situation to line (i) but 20. ...bxa2 is not great now because a7 is not protected anymore. hence 20. ...qxq 21.pxq r-c2 again winning a pawn which should win the game.
Hope that helps
Scandinavian Rules! 🙂

Hope that helps...
Have you ever played these lines before? Or do you know of a player who has?
