Forget 2000. Stay at 1800. That's plenty strong enough. To even keep a 2000 rating once you've gotten there, you have to study every day an hour a day and play in competitive tournaments against other players rated in that area. This grandmaster wrong an article on getting to 2000. That type of rating has to be maintained. You're never going to mak ...[text shortened]... ss tournament showings, so why would you even want to get to 2000? It's way time consuming.

First, is this possible? If so, second please, please one of you geniuses with time on your hands, why not give me some pointers? Call me lazy, but I just can't sit down with a book. It's so tedious. Isn't there some kind of super-interactive chess software out there that takes you by the hand and turns you into a formidable endgame player etc?
Just take the lessons at the free site: http://www.entertainmentjourney.com/index1.htm

1800 player: Girl says, "hey there class A player"
2000 player: Girl says, "hey there class A player"
You: Actually, I'm an Expert 🙂
Girl: Wow, I bet your an expert at other things also.
Hahah, seriously though, for me, being 2000 plus would be an accomplishment, and you could tell people your an expert in chess, charge more to teach chess, plus I would be on the top 20 list for my city.
Also, if your really close to 1800 and will probably get there, then you need a new goal. Everyone needs a goal otherwise, why bother doing anything?
Stay at the same rating and not improve and I bet you're get sick of chess eventually.

Tell me something you do for fun, which you don't want to improve at?
although I can probably think more things in which I do want to get better. but there's always a limit how far you can go. so when you get there, then what? stop like de la maza did? - I'm in more for the ride, not for the destination. but that's just me.
Originally posted by wormwoodThis is an important point, and one that brings us back to my original post. Arnie may have misunderstood me - that's ok, Arnie, I forgive you - but I am willing to put in some effort. I just don't want to do it with books (or at least not mostly with books). That is because I don't enjoy the method or therefore the "journey". With computers, multimedia etc. there must be a way to improve that is more interactive and, in short, fun.

I learned Spanish the best and most enjoyable way possible: by falling in love. So maybe one way to reach my goal would be to have a passionate affair with a woman GM. But then again, no.
Maybe part of the problem is that I'm not playing any OTB chess. I love this site but when you lose a game it doesn't hurt as much as when you lose OTB. Avoiding that terrible feeling is one good incentive to get better.

Exercise- you do to get fit, stronger. Don't you wish you could exercise more efficiently.
Read-don't you wish you could faster and still understand what you are reading.
Music-don't you wish you had better hearing so you could hear better or play better music if your into that.
etc....
As for beer, don't you wish you could drink tons and tons and still be able to drink more?
etc...
