Game 3 has just finished with a 23 move draw. Kramnik chose the Petroff Defence again, but this time swapped off the queens. Leko obviously couldn't cope with the excitement, and quickly headed for the most tedious line possible, and an early handshake.
WAKE UP GUYS, THIS IS THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
Originally posted by David TebbYes, another Petroff ( or Queen's fianchetto as it is sometimes known!! ) very tedious. Leko's 'improvement' on game 1 was only good enough to draw.

The ball is in Leko's court. Kramnik will be happy to draw with black and Leko will have to find something special to beat him when K has white.

This draw business is shameful. I miss Tal and Spassky and even Fischer. Even Kasparov. I hope that the supposed match between the winner and Kasparov happens, and I hope that he smashes whoever it turns out to be in an utter bloodbath.
Maybe they'll let Bobby have a crack at 'em from jail. There'd be none of this draw business there...

I don't know much about Leko.
Does he play anything other than 1.e4 at this level?
Anyone know?
Also after 1.e4 e5, Leko invariably plays 2.Nf3. So with Kramnik seeminly intent on drawing his way to victory, we can expect plenty more Petroffs in this match 😴

Kramnik has obviously done his homework, as one might expect.
Leko will have to try something!

I think Leko should play the KG 😀 That would throw Vlad the Peaceful for a loop! When's the last time the KG was used in a world championship match, anyway?
At least he should play the Vienna or something. ANYTHING other than 2. Nf3.
I think if the game would have remained even we might have had a chance to see several opening novelties as each side went for the win. Now that Kramnik is up a point he will strictly go for a draw to the end of the match and save his time, money, research, etc. that he's spent coming up with his opening novelties. Let's not forget that the winner will most likely need those opening novelties when they face Kasparov for a unified title. I know if it were me, I'm saving any trick I've got for Kasparov if I've got the lead.
