@ponderable saidAbsolutely nothing at RHP is anywhere near the bigger frame of things. There's nothing wrong with doing little things that make this site better.
So how important is this in the bigger frame of things?
If any individual (subscriber or not) is distressed over seeing a thumb count on his messages, why not allow them to disable it? For themselves that is, not for everyone else.
Some people are distressed by it and some aren't, so why not let everyone decide for themselves if they want to see an approval/disapproval rating?
I'm suggesting it could be made invisible only to the person who doesn't want to see it

@kilroy70 saidThis suggestion was already made maybe a dozen pages ago. The interesting thing about making it possible for the recipient of thumbs to disable them [so that they alone don't see them] is that several of the supporters of the feature argue that it is a chance to send a message to the recipient.

@fmf saidNo, there's not.

But this "suggestion" will result in people making bad posting decisions getting less pushback about their bad posting decisions. One can easily see why you two, out of all the posters on this site, are the most vocal about either restricting the feature or making it not anonymous, so that you can easily endlessly berate those who disagree with you.
Because that IS what would happen. And everyone knows it.
And that would make this site and its forums worse, not better.

@suzianne saidYou seem to be under the impression that posting style is influenced by thumbs. Is this something you have actually observed in your time here?
No, there's not.

@shallow-blue saidI didn’t see a “vote”.
It was already voted down a dozen pages or so.
Neither was there a “vote” when Russ decided to restrict “alerts” to 3, and to subscribers only.
@divegeester saidApparently, you and your partner in crime are the only ones who got a vote.

@divegeester saidSilencing pushback doesn't make people dislike your bad posting habits any less, either.

@suzianne saidIgnoring your silly “partner in crime” comment, I’ll ask you again then…

@divegeester saidFor starters, this one right here. It's tiresome and dishonest.
What bad posting habits?

@shallow-blue saidYou feel that my asking that question of Suzianne is a “bad posting habit” and you find it “tiresome and dishonest”?
For starters, this one right here. It's tiresome and dishonest.
Maybe you need to man up a bit Shallow Blue.
