That strong chilli flavour is the only way to disguise an otherwise bland meal 😀

Not necessarily, one of my exes used to make Indian curries as authentic as they come. (She used to make the curry power herself, grinding it up in a mortar and pestle, and not just buying curry paste or powder from a packet. Mind you she studied nutrition for 4 years in university. That's what I miss about her the most. She used to cook every night and I would do the dishes. She would get near every dish dirty by the end of it, but it was worth it. It was like eating at a different restaurant every night. Yum)

How many BTU's are we talking here?
(A fairly hot Jalepeno chilli is about 15 BTU's (if I remember correctly),which many consider a fairly hot chilli, where some chillis can be 100+ BTU's !! ouch!!)

I thought the degree to which a chilli was hot was the amount of tears, sweat or in my case hiccups produced.

I didn't know the "hotness" of a chill could be measured but it seems it can.
I found the below link....

It seems that the Bhut Jolokia is the hottest.

Robbie, that was, as you must be aware just a joke.

Unlike, some Indians, I am actually grateful for the British rule in India. While there were some bad things they did. They also did a lot of good, especially the missionaries... building schools, banning the inhumane practices such as Sati (widow burning), etc.

The system of governance is good b ...[text shortened]... so inherited British bureaucracy (spelling).

Did any of your relatives stay behind in India?
yes, these things are true, civil engineering, infrastructure etc, although the
humanitarian cost is almost unbelievable. i guess one must look at it from what
preceded it (the Mughuls) and what came after it, self governance and the system of
bureaucracy with its bribery and kickbacks. As far as i am aware none of my relatives
stayed in India, i have a postcard from Delhi during the Raj from my fathers uncle,
with a two rupee stamp on it.

Nowadays, the level of corruption is unbelievable.

That stamp might be valuable. It now costs Rs 25 to send a post-card abroad.

Did you visit India recently and if so, where did you go?

yes i know this thing, that corruption is endemic and it usually hurts the very poorest.
I have seen the rickshaw wala have his whole days wages taken by the policeman as a
kind of tax, he shall take a cut, pass it to his superior, he shall take a percentage and
pass it up the line. Its the Indian cotton farmers and the unprecedented rate of suicide
that has truly perplexed me at the moment, its nothing but neocolonialism and its
shameful to behold.

I would love to visit India but have no plans, the people I have found to be the most
hospitable I have ever met.

what a piece of nonsense, the land of the free in which every heart beats true,
Americans have less freedoms than Europeans, at least we can peacefully protest
without being shot! thanksgiving? i am sure the indigenous Americans were real
thankful after you deliberately infected them with small pox! real thankful! yes i said
it! no offence to Americans themselves, but its a real contentious thing to be
celebrating. To be thankful and then to wipe out the hand that helped you out! it
violates all the known natural laws of hospitality and makes the Glencoe massacre
appear insignificant by comparison.

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

One would expect that a flag described as a "grand old flag" would be a bit more than just over 50 years old!

Even the current Union flag is over 200 years!
(And thats with the Scots and Irish changing it!)

Our national flag is much older than 50 years.

I think you mean Scoville units.

Herbert W. Armstrong of the Worldwide Church of God wrote a book called
"The United States and Britain in Prophecy" in which he gives evidence for
his theory that the descendants of Ephraim and Menasseh established the
United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
fulfilled the prophecies and blessings given to Jacob's son Joseph and his
descendants. It is a very convincing read to me. But regardless, of its
truth, I believe that God had a plan for the USA and I am thankful that I
am able to share in this plan along with the blessings. If you wish to look
down your long noses at us, that is your choice. I am proud to be a
Christian living in the United States of American, the home of the free and
the brave, and the flag represents something of importance to me, especially
on this Thanksgiving Day.

nationalism is a destructive force, to exalt one nation above another, when God has
created all men, is clearly unchristian, for as Peter clearly states, 'God is not partial'. I
do not look down upon you, as a person, nor as a nation. I loath both the British
Empire and the American with equal animosity. I do not fly the flag of my own country
because i am ashamed of its history and cannot bring my self to associate with it.

Your assertions of the descendants of emphriam and mannaseh cannot be
substantiated and therefore must remain in the realms of pure and utter speculation,
without the slightest piece of evidence to support the claims.

Okay guys, Happy Thanksgiving.
In India, we have McDonalds, Coke, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dominos, Pizza Hut, Christmas and Easter is firmly established (regardless of your religion). On our Independence day, after the regular parade, etc we would watch some Bollywood patriotic movie. But of recent years, we have had to watch "Independence day" starring Will Smith.
This year it was "Avatar"... get it the Navis fighting for their freedom.

I am sure, Thanksgiving will also be adopted... it's global, pop culture thing.
