The post that was quoted here has been removedHere is what I said in context and in full:
FabianFnas: "Insults is always annoying, and creeps under my skin. As a moderator I would be very hard on those using insults as a method to win a discussion. Intellectual low, and very contagious too."
Nick Bourbaki: "I say no to moderators intervening. I don't want moderators deciding what I see and don't see. I don't want moderators second guessing what I might like or dislike. I don't want moderators setting a benchmark for acceptable and unacceptable insults on my behalf. I find the insults people dish out interesting and revealing. I don't claim any right-to-not-be-offended, and I certainly think any such right trumping the right to express oneself freely would be a terrible state of affairs."
I would welcome your opinions about freedom of speech and moderation in a forum like this. What stance do you take?
The post that was quoted here has been removedI have no idea what kind of "legal disputes" you might be seriously referring to. And I have come nowhere near even remotely talking about any "dispute [that] would be adjudicated in the courts". You are the first person [I think] to use such words as "legal", "legal dispute", "legal right" and 'adjudicated in the courts" on this entire thread. Quite frankly, I'm not sure what on earth you think you are really on about.

I would add, Leave Clan Forum type messaging on the Clan Forum.
Clan Forum Etiquette: divegeester to robbie carrobie "WTF! You are like some bleeding 15 year old with hormones pinging around all over the place... when in fact, you are a ruddy grown man in your 40s, FFS!!!"
Spirituality Forum Etiquette: divegeester to Nick Bouraki "For those who assume robbie carrobie is a 15 year old with hormones pinging around all over the place, he is in fact ~ or so I am led to believe ~ a man in his 40s."
I think such subtle variations in etiquette from Forum to Forum are to be embraced.
🙂
The post that was quoted here has been removedI don't see how a yes-or-no tick box on a web page is going to prevent or deter these "many people" [that you envisage] who "would be free to write as many insults, lies, and racist or sexist slurs as imaginable". What's stopping them from writing "as many insults, lies, and racist or sexist slurs as imaginable" as things stand? What has stopped me from writing "as many insults, lies, and racist or sexist slurs as imaginable" thus far?
