Originally posted by EmashiEmashi you are the person that can help me, please take a moment to read this. i was having on the chess only forum a huge debate, whether or not Fischer was Jewish. now regardless of what you think about him personally, can you tell me what it is that makes one Jewish, for as you may or may not be aware, Fischer claimed that he was not Jewish. I myself tended to agree with this, because he had scandalously given lots of cash to the worldwide church of god, and thus it was apparent that he could not be described as being Jewish on a religious basis.
Now now, the only jerk here I see is you.
It isn't nice swearing at other religions and what others believe. Keep it to yourself, That's just ridiculous. Have respect.
Many people were saying that he was automatically Jewish, by virtue of the fact that his mum was Jewish, kind of like me being Scottish, i just cant help it, thus they were trying to establish on the grounds of ethnicity that he was indeed Jewish, however i said that this was not enough, for he himself claims that he was uncircumcised, which i thought surely would have been a prerequisite to being accepted as Jewish, also he is known to like the odd ham sandwich, therefore its quite clear to me that he was neither Jewish in word, nor in deed, neither culturally, linguistically nor in practice and that any claim to his Jewishness on a faith or ethnicity basis is quite erroneous.
if you can help me ascertain the truth of the matter i would be very much obliged, for i wanted to broach the subject with a fellow player, an American friend on this site Scriabin, but i have promised him that i will not mention Fischer again to him, for i feel he was quite upset, naturally because of his remarks, so if you can shed any insight on this matter i would be grateful - regard s Robbie.
p.s. sorry that it is off topic,

ok, so its just a believe, but obviously somewhere, somebody has a reference for this idea, maybe in the Koran, maybe the Hadith, just curious that is all.
Originally posted by Rajk999I knew ahosyney. It was he that showed me how great Islam can be, but he had a minor problem (that a lot of Sunnis have, admittedly, but in no way all of them) that was basically a literalism complex.
I have been through this exact discussion with quite an educated muslim on this site. Cant remember the thread. His name was Ahosyney. He confirmed that the killing of adulterers and apostates were acts condoned either by the Koran or the Hadiths. He actually (as would any self respecting muslim) agreed that these acts should be carried out. Its the muslims that do not believe these acts should be carried are the ones that are not true muslims.
The Old Testament (or the Hebrew Bible) calls for the stoning and killing of homosexuals, dissidents, adulterers, etc. Should you do these things? No. Can you not do them and still be a good Jew/Christian/Muslim? Yes.

Are muslims terrorists?
The answer is no.
Are muslims killing adulterers?
The answer is no
etc etc etc
Did mohammed tell the muslims to do these things?
The answer is no
The people that do these things are not muslims, they just carry a muslim name, and that's what i meant earlier by misrepresenting the religon because sadly they do not know their beliefs are just wrong. I have dealt with many muslims.
Unfortunately, the same can not be said for the Third or Fourth Geneva Conventions. I have Muslim family tortured by Israeli soldiers without cause, trial, or legality. Or basic humanity.

Sorry ... I'm too lazy to back up. What was the discussion between us about?
By the way, Joseph Smith was a wacko.

Exactly. One day it might sink in.

False. Islam is vile, pathetically troglodytic and epistemically unjustifiable.
