Religions make God seem so small. Indeed, small enough to be a very straight forward and effective tool of social control. Or is it me who is being small here?

In some respects, science has far surpassed religion in delivering awe. How is it that hardly any major religion has looked at science and concluded, "This is better than we thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander, more subtle, more elegant. God must be even greater than we dreamed"? Instead they say, "No, no, no! My god is a little god, and I want him to stay that way."

It is a matter of faith, much of what man claims about God is, "God
cannot do that" that appears to be making God smaller; however, it is
what it is; you can believe what you will about God and the universe,
but nothing in science has ever touched God with respect to wonder or
awe.

If religions had embraced science they could have had the best of both worlds. Their god would have seemed that much grander. But in setting themselves against science, religions are continually diminishing their god.

Nobody ever says that! Carl Sagan dreamed it up on his own to make Christians look stupid. It's a completely moronic thing to say.

Are there any Christians who believe that the creation took place in 6 consecutive 24 hr periods?
Do any think that its impossible for intelligent life to exist elsewhere in the universe?

Yes and Yes? Then Carl Sagan was right.

Christianity doesn't need Carl Sagan to look stupid, small and mundane ...

The probability of there not being Intelligent life elsewhere in the universe has to be very very low........ Its just too big...... Plus the earth is several billion years old..... But was made in 6 days.... People and all... Impressive....
Its also ridiculously arrogant to assume then entire universe was created for you.... don't you think?

Why can't some Christians just admit that the universe is bigger and grander than anything their bible said it was. And if they want its easy to leave room for their god and say he/she/if had a much grander vision and scope than they ever thought possible. To say that the universe is less than it is, is to lessen your god on many levels.....

Science has built in blinders to the spiritual so how would you merge
the two? Besides it isn't 'science' or 'religion' that matter but getting
in touch with the truth or reality that does. We can be mistaken in
both religion and in science, only the truth sets us free, and only the
truth is worth building our lives on.

What is arrogant here, saying my faith says this, or your facts do?

Science has no blinders to spirituality.... But it is built on empirical fact and evidence therefore doesn't have room for gods within its teachings.

Also religion throughout history has attacked, suppressed and generally been set completely against science......

It is the place of religion to explain that which science cannot because religion needs no evidence only faith. If this could be acknowledged by religious people then there is little if any issues between religion and science.....

No its arrogant to assume that god would create something as grand as the Universe just for us humans, don't you think?..... And isn't it funny how in the bible nothing is mentioned of god creating the galaxies and other things that we're outside the scope of those who wrote, actually this extends toward marsupials and dinosaurs also, how come him creating all these things isn't mentioned.

Could it be because the men who wrote the bible had never seen or heard of these creatures before and thus wouldn't have placed them in a book they we're writing?
