I must confess there was a moment when I was beginning to doubt you. I mean, your answers seemed so poorly thought out, your appeal to your chess rating, the ad hominems, running away at the first sight of danger whilst claiming intellectual superiority etc.
Googefudge's ideas seemed so well argued, logical and cons ...[text shortened]... e with you - great argument!', that settles it as far as I am concerned.
Good job, duchess.
Googlefudge, I do not.
I did not pm him either.

So who is the biggest bigot here. Us or you?
I would suggest it is you.
Titles we slap on others say more about the one slapping it then the one receiving it.

What an anti-climax. Literally. Nothing makes a good gay thread like a good old-fashioned dick-waving in front of a bunch of other men.

Go to default to crass talk.
Glad you atheists can keep a conversation civil.

This thread's been crass from post 1. Don't blame me simply for joining the party.
😴
Your rational for joining in on something is dangerous.
Something is happening so you just join the flow, eh?
Is that what you'd have done in Nazi Germany?
Originally posted by AppleChessWell, I didn't call you a bigot, so it's hard for me to answer that one.

But people who slavishly adhere to a single religion out of the hundreds/thousands that have been created, one which commanded the summary execution of gay people, and continue to support God's righteousness in doing so, despite the self-evident immorality of this, whilst latching onto and privately supporting any arguments which reduce their personal culpability for the continued intolerance to the gay community, might reasonably be regarded as bigoted.

Just in case you thought I made it up.
Normally I wouldn't feel compelled to promote wiki even as a last resort for those whose personal opinions are dependent on whatever the prevailing winds happen to drop at their feet... but tonight I'll make an exception, and hold my nose and sing the praises of wiki(icky)pedia.
So... where do I start?
VV ikipedia has proven to be a tried and true cheat sheet for anyone who has trouble putting two of their own thoughts together for and by themselves, or are perhaps too afraid (or maybe just too lazy) to offer their own opinion... assuming they actually have an opinion of their own, and not just one borrowed from a quick google search straight into the bowels of wikipedia. But even if an opinion is borrowed, and preferably one already pre-approved by our exalted anti-holy Mother of Public Opinion, it is and shall always be my hope to see the same often borrowed (and many times regurgitated) same old crap in some new and interesting light... needless to say but I'll say it anyway, I won't be holding my breath waiting to see anything new or interesting showing up anytime soon.
So give it up y'all for wikipedia, for providing the less than average slob though obedient to public opinion the opportunity to play the role of free thinking intellect whilst never straying from the immoral obligations and poorly thought through precepts exemplified by the Whore of Babylonian model of modern day blah de blah blah blah de blah blah yadda yadda yadda... and anyone who disagrees with me is an abhorrent abomination, and a repugnant and bigoted lemony-lime-a-phobe.

As a Christian I know the gay man or gay woman, like me, are created in the image of God and therefore bear that dignity. And Christ died for them as for any other sinner. I don't hate them.
You are of the opinion that allowing gay people to enter into a legally binding contract that they wish to call 'marriage' and that will allow them to benefit from tax breaks and that will make inheritance etc easier, will so affect your ability to criticize them without any backlash, that you wish to bar them from entering into such contracts, or at best from labelling such contracts as 'marriage'.
But you don't hate them. No, you are really only concerned about how people are going to see you when you are in the clear minority. As long as gay marriage is illegal, you can claim that your bigotry is the majority opinion and therefore respectable.
Is the above a good summary of your position? If not, what have I got wrong?
Originally posted by sonshipSo you accept that people are 'born' with these impulses?
The point is that " I was born this way " can be argued for many things which we should not act out.
Civilization occurs where people restrain themselves in areas where they may have been born with an impulse that should be under self control.
I am happily married for over 35 years. I was BORN, however, with an innate impulse to have as many ...[text shortened]... at way without a choice.
Should we give in to every impulse that we were born with?
I think you are half right, in that people do always have choices in what they do and do not do. Sexual orientation however is core to a persons identity. Why should somebody choose to restrain themselves and shut off that part of themselves, live a lie, an unhappy, unfulfilled existence? Because people like you say so? Because you deem it sinful?
A vegetarian may restrain a natural impulse to eat meat. A man with murderous thoughts may also choose not to act on his impulses (and rightly so). But it is not the same thing as expecting a gay person to choose not to be gay. That path only ends in misery, an unnecessary misery in modern society.
