For my money it's Sugar Ray Robinson. As close to a complete fighter as you'll ever find.
If we take all the boxers at that their peak I'd say Ali and always will be the greatest.. he was simply faster smarter and prettier... as the Champ would say.

Robinson's certainly one of the all time great fighters but there were plenty of others. I esp. like Gene Tunney who beat the best middleweights, light heavies and heavyweights of his era and who lost only one fight to the great Harry Greb who Tunney bested twice.
blah blah blah... Julio César Chávez 😵
Anglo-Saxon fighters (and Puerto Ricans as well) are always clowns
in the measure between sport & show.
The best serious boxers are Asian or Mexican/Hispanic,
particularly in the real boxing: light divisions*. Period.
Roberto Durán, Chávez, "Jíbaro" Pérez, Enrique Júpiter,
"Púas" Olivares, "Mantequilla" Nápoles, "Finito" López,
Barrera, etc. etc.
* The upper weights are always about animals slapping each other
with more strength than class, technique, class and style.

Salvador Sanchez was one of my favorite fighters. Damn shame.

Originally posted by SeitseHe got the same benefit that Sugar Ray Leonard had - losing the fight and then finally get off a good fluery and the ref stops the fight. Chavez was the moneymaker and Taylor wasn't. Happens often in boxing and you know that. Taylor would have safe ly made it to close the fight and would have won the decision.
What robbery?? He could not articulate a coherent word, his eyes
were lost in neverland, and the fact that there were few seconds left
does not relieve the referee from doing his job.
Chavez was great. He just got some chips cashed in for him on that one.
I think Richard Steele made the right call there. Taylor was absolutely out on his feet and didn't respond. I don't how much time is or is not left, it's the referees job to protect the fighter. Taylor incurred massive punishment in that fight and was never the same, even though if he could have responded he would have won the decision widely.
