Hypothetical scenario. Jets are playing the Steelers, Jets are +5.5 on the spread. The game is 17-14 in the Steelers favor but in the last kick of the game Jets get a field goal to force overtime. Steelers score a TD in overtime and win 23-17. On what planet did the Jets not cover the spread? They miss the field goal attempt, they cover the spread, they make it and don't?
1) Earth
2) Yes

Betting against the point spread isn't about "fair" or "representative of the game." It's a mechanical T/F dichotomy.
In college where they have the possession-for-possession OT, the over/under for, say, LSU-Florida, could be 49.5 and after regulation it's 0-0. During the OT, both teams score TDs on their first 4 possessions but LSU missed the conversion on the last one and the final score is 30-28.
Over wins it, anomalous though it may seem.

No worries Trev....you are obviously picking opposite of what he picks too....correct?
That could be your response just as well, and you can PM me with your choice.
Then he won't know who to root for...or against. 😉😀
But i don't want to win or lose it playing games, i suggest that we both PM our picks to you and you post them here.
Originally posted by shortcircuitI picked the Giants + 3.5. This was the spread on footballlocks.com when I posted the above, although it is now 3.
no picks received yet. Better get them in by tomorrow, for I may not be online on Saturday.
In the event of no picks, the third place team wins by default. 😀
Originally posted by shortcircuitMaybe we can do the over/under and who will score first and last and guess the TV ratings and which company will have the greatest commercials.
No worries, but I was referring to the two leaders who actually have a shot at winning the mythical title.
Then anyone can win
So, for the record:
- Giants + 3.5
- Under 54
- Pats score first
- Giants score last
- Ratings: 47.3/ 69 share
- Budweiser
