One word, "GOMES"!! Nice to see him in there instead of the struggling Bruce. He is the spark the team needed right now.
The Reds are soldiering on pretty well without Phillips and with Votto as a part-timer; 24-20 and only 2 1/2 out of 1st. The team is definitely showing some moxie; I love Rosales' energy. It'll be interesting to see what Dusty does when EE comes off the DL.
Originally posted by no1marauderI have to hand it to you. We must give credit where credit is due. Oswalt has faced the Reds 3 times and without a win and two of those three were wins by the Reds. I confess, I would never have made the prediction. Now where has shortcircuit gone with all this happening I wonder? 😉

Originally posted by whodeyTo be fair, last night was the first time the Reds actually hit Oswalt hard. I'm sure SC would point that out.

However to give me credit where due, I did say after Oswalt's last start against our Reds:
I still think we'll get him good at some point in the season.
That we did, though we could have scored more. Wait until next time.

Reds are sinking fast!! Of course, they will blame it on Votto but of late the pitching has been abysmal. I just hope the man of mystery returns to the line up soon, however, if the pitching does not turn around there is precious little Votto can do to help them.
A baseball season has ebb and flow; after the first two months of the season the Reds are 3 games over .500 despite suffering a lot of injuries and misfortunes. I'd say things are going fine if you step back and look at the big picture.
Volquez returns tonight against the Cards; getting him going would be a great help.

Originally posted by whodeyI have no reason to believe that Volquez and/or Votto are going to miss the rest of the year or any significant portion of it.
So if Volquez is going to be hurt the rest of the year much like Votto, does this change your opinion on their .500 year?
Even if they do, the Reds seem resilient and talented enough to break .500. They have a nice lefty starter named Matt Maloney in Triple-A who could give them a lift if Volquez misses time. Certainly without their best hitter a playoff spot is probably out of the question, but I still think 85 wins is a realistic goal.
Nice win last night; the bats woke up behind another solid performance by Cueto. Nix looks like he's won the LF job for now.
Tough one tonight against Chris Carpenter who's been virtually unhittable since returning from the DL, while Harang has struggled. Still even if the Reds lose, splitting a series in St. Louis ain't too bad.
Originally posted by no1marauderWell considering that Nix seems to be the only one that can hit with an average I think it safe to assume that he needs to play everyday.

As for Cueto, I think he is their ace. Sorry Harang and Volquez.
