Batteries are definitely the Achilles heel of electronic devices these days. Much room for technological improvement there. Good luck with your new phone.

Well, I'm sad to report that I will now be looking for a replacement for my iphone.

It finally came apart as shown in the video, but it was not nearly as easy as they made it look. Then the battery adhesive strips would not come out as shown either, but I finally managed to pry out the old battery using an old credit card and a hair dryer to warm things up. The new ba ...[text shortened]... or a while, until I manage to find a replacement phone, which might have to wait until next year. ๐Ÿ™
If you’re not a fan of iOS and don’t intend buying another Apple device in future then I wouldn’t bother trying to repair your current one and just buy an android based phone, or even a basic “phone only” model rather than a smartphone.

If you do want to continue with Apple but don’t want to pay out too much, then maybe a refurbished handset from a reputable resale outlet?

I ended up with a kyocera dura xv. It's a flip phone and seems pretty good so far, and the battery is easy to replace.
Ah, just seen this post.

I bought a used phone from here and was happy with it after I figured out how to use it.

Ah, that's unfortunate.

I have an almost 7-year-old iPhone SE. "Smart" phones do not really impress me, especially the giant roof-shingle-sized ones that seem all the rage now. There's no shortage of fools waddling around the streets nowadays with what appear to be baking pans stuffed in their back pockets. I suppose they're slightly better than the other fools stumbling around with a phone glued to the end of their nose.

Yes, I'm just a bitter old bastard.

Assumptions by companies that everyone has a damn phone has gone too far in my opinion.
At some car parks now you can't pay for parking without having a bloody app.
You can't even use a debit card
Thing is,different companies have different apps and they aren't that reliable anyway + I presume you need to have online banking.
It's all about saving money on staff-like automatic checkouts in supermarkets
I'm waiting for the day when the internet goes down for a week and the ensuing chaos.

This is something you could write a short story about: there is a Prose competition running in the GF.

Not sure I'm up to it Pondy and it'd have to be more like a novel than a short story.
