And perhaps the first bit of contraversy. You have to wonder why black resigned in this game (maybe I'm missing something?)

I find this kind of unclear too... there is of course a double attack, on two pawns, but even then, I wouldn't say it justifies a resignation: black's king is quite vulnerable, but that's all! . but we are probably missing something here!

You are indeed. But you'll not find it by studying the final position 🙁

And I'm implying nothing - nothing, do you hear me!

I think black is falling apart. Perhaps resignation was a move or two early but it looks bad. For example: on Rd7 defending the pawn, white can play Nf5 Bf8, and then Rb4+ Kb7, Qe3+ Ka8, Qb6 etc. Black just has two many weaknesses so white can attack the K and clean up the loose pawns.

Zawinul former leader in the finals has resigned all games and is out. SeniorPatzer is now the leading player.

A little weak to sign up for the tournament and then resign all your games (and still play a bunch of other games). At least Zawinul appears to have left the site.

Zawinul has significant difficult issues in his life that require immediate full-time attention. These things happen. That's why he's had to step out suddenly.

Yeah - I wasn't really commenting about Zawinul. As you point out, these things happen.

He was my favorite human, with SeinfeldFan, to win the championship. Unfortunately both won't make it. Oh, by the way, I've been eliminated by SeniorPatzer.
