@rajk999 said"Smart" hospital administrators do not seem immune from explicit or implicit bias:
Smart hospital administrators choose the best they can get their hands on. They do not ban anyone from applying, and the criteria has nothing to do with race , like in the case of the BBC here. The BBC dont really care because these positions are not critical and hiring a few more people just to appease the stupid masses makes no difference to them. Critical positions are decided on with care.
"The data show that doctors from black and ethnic minority backgrounds are far less likely to be appointable than white doctors. Across the three year period, three quarters (75% ) of white applicants to training posts were appointable (23,589 out of 31,430), compared to only 53% of ethnic minority applicants (15,293 out of 29,072)."
"Unrelated to these findings, a study based on National Health Service (NHS) Digital’s 2017 workforce statistics on NHS hospital and community health service staff, published in BMJ Open, found that the NHS still favors white candidates when hiring for its most prestigious and highly paid positions. [2]
According to this study, 46% of white doctors were consultants, compared with 33.4% of Chinese doctors and 30.6% of black doctors. This was despite a much larger proportion of Chinese people employed by the NHS being doctors than white employees."

Those are UK stats.
@no1marauder saidAnd those “remedial measures” are exactly the same as before, only now whitey gets discriminated against instead of blacky.
The BBC recognizes that its past hiring practices did just that (whether intentionally or because of deep rooted racial stereotypes is irrelevant to the result) and has now taken remedial measures.
Good for them.
Idiots.
Bottom line is more and more corporations (and universities) are openly discriminating against white people in their hiring practices as well as promoting POC rather than better qualified whites, and it's somehow considered not just OK, but a good thing.
I guess Affirmative Action wasn't enough.

@great-king-rat saidThis "discrimination" (normally the word in this context means an "unjustified distinction" ) will lead to POC being equitably represented in the BBC workforce while the prior discrimination led to an inequitable, racist result.

An "idiot" probably would have understanding such a difference.
@dood111 saidTraditional "qualifications" do not factor in the massive roadblocks placed in the way of success by overt and covert racism.

Whites seem to be doing just fine, though.
@no1marauder saidUhhhmmmm yeahhhhh....right....

That's why Obama got elected, with ZERO qualifications, because he had all those roadblocks. Same with kamala harris, who was obviously discriminated aginst her whole life.
I like the way you ignored the mess that Washington DC metro is in because of their policy to hire and promote only blacks, promoting a barely literate black that had been in prison over a White person with a Ph.D.
@dood111 saidNo one but the most rabid right winger takes seriously the claim "Obama was elected, so therefore there is no longer any racial discrimination in the US".

@no1marauder saidWhat it leads to is a person not getting hired for the job they applied to because of the colour of their skin.

Dress it up all you like.
@no1marauder saidThe kind of overt racism you’re championing.

@no1marauder saidSo....WHY was he elected? He was a POS Chicago Community Organizer that fell into a vacant Senate seat and somehow got elected to the presidency , is that because white people are so prejudiced?

Because Americans are sooooo racist?
@great-king-rat said"Racism" is a belief that one or more "races" are inherently superior to other "races".
The kind of overt racism you’re championing.
Dealing with the results of prior discrimination by remedial measures hardly indicates a belief in any "race's" superiority or inferiority.
@dood111 saidConsidering the economic disaster Republicans had presided over by November 2008, it's astonishing he didn't win by an FDR or Reagan landslide.

Even at that, whites voted against him by better than 10%. https://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/polls/#USP00p1
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/4246535/premier-league-black-asian-minority-ethnic-backgrounds-doubled-since-1992/
Is the Premier-League going to put a freeze on adding black players? Blacks make up about 3 percent of the UK population, but they make up over 30 percent of the Premier-League players.
@no1marauder saidRacism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to physical appearance and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another.[1][2][3][4] It may also mean prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different ethnicity.
