A contentious issue, for once.
Rules:
- you have to have been there
- if you haven’t, you can’t comment on that city (positive or negative).
- you can give a top 3.
- have to argue why.

I’ll start:

3. Paris
Oh, museums, sitting on the steps in Mont Martre, in front of the Sacre Couer sipping coke, gazing out over the city. Sipping wine at a corner bistro, lights ...[text shortened]... osa; crosses and whips flying everywhere… such gorgeous chaos.

I wonder what cities you all love!
...........Paris.........The culture, women, food, joie de vivre
...........New Orleans..........The food, women, Bars 24/7, exciting
...........San Diego........Beaches, women, safe and fully functional, climate

I can see why foreigners would not like America, you never know what you will run into around the corner. I do love the different flora and fauna, from one coast to another. But you asked about cities, and I refrain from telling you the very best small hamlets in this country, as it could draw the wrong cultures in there. No offense.
May favorite place to visit fo ...[text shortened]... f course, in Italy. The Florences and Romes of the world are the very best in a class my themselves.
Love lake Como!

I used to live near London. Had great times there. But Inwas there a few years ago (just before this corona malarkey) and my favourite bar was no more.
Deeply, deeply disappointed…

We lived in Jerusalem for 3 years, great city for sure, and we are folk musicians and fell into the anglo folk crowd quite well🙂

But Bankok was a great city also, lived in Thailand for 3 years also,

Loved Amsterdam! Loved Tivoli Garden in Copenhagen.

Dublin is interesting also, my grandparents are Murphy's and McCarts so I have a bit of Irish in me and ...[text shortened]... , great time there.

We hail from Venice Beach California, a true human zoo but we love the place!
Bangkok was utterly amazing. I totally agree.
Funnily enough, of all the American cities I’ve been to, I liked LA the best. Driving via the hills, down through Santa Monica boulevard and then via the beach side road to Venice was like being in a Tarantino movie or something. Amazing!
Amsterdam… yes!

Love your choices!

1. Bamberg, Germany - Not very well known but a gem of a small city. Small enough to be able to walk around but big enough where there is plenty to keep one entertained. Stunning baroque architecture (one of the few cities the allies didn't level to the ground), amazing beer with 14 breweries (not to mention the over 100 or so in the surrounding countryside) with some of them ...[text shortened]... some great whisky on top of that.

Honorable mention to my home city of Boston, Massachusetts ...
I’ve never been to Bamberg.
I spend a lot of time near Pforzheim, got a good friend who lives where the Black Forest begins.
And I’ve been to Nuremberg. So, with this recommendation, once Corona has coughed over, Bamberg is on my todo list.

1. Bern, Switzerland. Sweetest capital city in Europe, doesn't have any industry, not even a proper airport (regional service only). The old town has beautifully preserved buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries, untouched by war or fire for hundreds of years. The arcades offer covered walking, even in inclement weather. University flair, with antique shops and book stores ...[text shortened]... pproaching cable car driver; look disinterested. Otherwise you'll be spotted instantly as a tourist.
Bern’s an odd choice… haha.
Cool. Although it’s technically the seat of government (like The Hague in the Netherlands), it’s not actually a capital.
Unlike the Netherlands (which has Amsterdam), I believe Switzerland is the only country in the world without a capital…

It’s something they call a Bundesstad.
Boggles my mind. But, hey, it is gorgeous. And beautifully located too!

I've chosen three I know well (one I lived in / near, two I visit regularly), rather than going for places where I once had a nice time on an isolated holiday.

Stockholm: Old town is gorgeous; location is striking; I feel on a wavelength with the people; I like the contrast between the breezy outdoors in summer Stockholm and the cosy cafes in winter Stockholm.

Bologna ...[text shortened]... and feel perfectly safe; and that is a priceless virtue. Also, more restaurants than any other city.
Bologna. Wow.
That statue of the woman with water jettisoning from her breasts… that was weird…

And, it is so far as I know, the only city with a painting in it with the image of Mohamed on it (being fed to the devil no less).
I was there the Summer before Corona struck. Gorgeous!
And like most Italian cities, great bloody food.

Lucerne is beautiful too, but much more touristy. Lucerne has a splendid lake, and the Alps are right there, jutting up behind the lake, with snowy peaks.

Yeah, Switzerland doesn't really have a capital, or a president for that matter. Switzerland is governed by a consensus-committee of seven members, and the presidency is a rotating function which passes automatically from one of the seven to the next every few years. So, mostly ceremonial, not like the American or Russian presidents. Still, Bern is home to the national bank and the international postal union. Don't laugh, the international postal union is important.

Bern has a river, the Aare, which snakes around the old town like a hairpin; in summer, when it's hot, there is a bridge from which people jump into the river, float downstream, around the old town, jump out, walk back, jump in again. Much fun.

Germany has some gorgeous cities, those which weren't carpet-bombed by Bomber Harris in WWII, that is. Limburg (famous stinky cheese) and Trier (Roman gate still standing) spring to mind.

Ive been to Pforzheim a couple of times five years apart and found it friendly but unremarkable and unchanging. I took a photo looking down one of the main streets with the trams on my first visit and when I returned five years later it looked exactly the same as though my last visit could have been yesterday. I was so struck by this that I took another photo from exactly the same spot looking exactly the same way. I suppose most cities are fairly unchanging so not sure why this one impacted me in this way.

The drive from Stuttgart was pretty and I promised to come back as I’d not seen the south, but unfortunately I’ve not returned.

After all these travel restrictions it is nice to think about travel and visiting lovely cities again.

Yeah, Pforzheim’s not much. My friend lives in a small village close by. From her parents house you look down at the beginning of the forest.
And the drives and towns in the whole black forest region are brilliant.

I’ve been lucky in the Summer holidays.
But, yeah, my usual xmas market trip to the Black Forest have been cancelled again.

And I’ve not darted through the Ardennen for God knows how long.

And the last time I ate fish and chips in Eastbourne? Can’t bloody remember.
