@mott-the-hoople saidAre you serious?:
how many people were killed while Trump was running things? NONE
The United States military in 2017 relaxed its rules of engagement for airstrikes in Afghanistan, which resulted in a massive increase in civilian casualties. From the last year of the Obama administration to the last full year of recorded data during the Trump administration, the number of civilians killed by U.S.-led airstrikes in Afghanistan increased by 330 percent."

"in 2017, the number of civilian deaths was 3,442, 3,803 in 2018, 3,409 in 2019, and 3,035 in 2020."

@mott-the-hoople saidAfghanistan has been an evolving disaster for at least two decades … but sure, let’s blame the guy who’s only in charge 7 months.
"The Taliban victory follows Biden breaking the peace deal former President Donald Trump negotiated with the jihadist organization. Under Trump’s terms, the U.S. would have withdrawn all of its combat personnel by May 1 of this year in exchange for the Taliban promising not to harbor terrorist groups like al Qaeda, to negotiate in good faith with Kabul, and to refrain ...[text shortened]... d."

@mott-the-hoople saidThe strategy was tried and failed against the Taliban. Afghanistan isn't Iraq and Syria (where significant forces were willing to fight to the death against ISIS) nor did the Taliban endorse an ideology that required them to stand and defend territory established as their "State".
same way he eliminated isis
@no1marauder
Well it looks like they have their state now. Women and girls and young boys will suffer the most from these bastards.

The agreement was in February 2020 and as I have already shown 2020 was the most violent year in Afghanistan since the beginning of the occupation. Trump's surrender agreement encouraged the Taliban to ramp up violence to pressure the Afghan government, which Trump froze out of the negotiations, and gave them 5000 extra troops to do so.

@mott-the-hoople saidIf Sonhouse, who writes nothing but his opinions, can write opinions, why can not Mott? I'll defend you Mott!!!

opinion or fact?

@shavixmir saidDrop flyers, warning civilians to flee, and go with raining down some fire. We best hurry, before they have their own Air Force,,,,,,and then their own Manhattan Project.
Obviously other outcomes were possible.
But this one was likely.
But what did you want? To be stuck in Afghanistan bleeding money for 2 extra decades?
How would you have resolved the US involvement?

@sonhouse saidDroppin the rain from the sky may be better for these innocents than living under Taliban.

@mott-the-hoople saidYou mean the deal in which the Taliban would share power with the Afghan government? LOL.
"The smart move for Biden, politically, would have been to meet with the Taliban again (just like Trump) and delay the withdrawal until after the next presidential election in May 1 of 2025. "
the smart move would have been to leave by may 1...as the Trump agreement stipulated.
@mott-the-hoople saidRight. I stand corrected. The only other outcome would have been to reverse course and keep US troops there indefinitely.

@no1marauder saidEveryone please remember that we were there to keep the peace, make women equal, build schools such as that. Not war. and , oh, try to end terrorism. The USA is most wonderful. You foreign fellers are somewhat blinded by how great we are, and forget our true good.
Jesus Christ, you live in a dream world.
