@no1marauder saidAccording to the CDC the US death rate is 97 percent of what would be expected. I find it difficult to believe that this thing is as deadly as you believe.
"So few people"?
In April alone, the virus killed close to 200,000 worldwide and around 60,000 in the US alone.
In one month.
The rest is nonsense as you well know.
How can 97 we be seeing 97 percent of expected deaths? Most of the people being killed were expected to be dying soon anyhow.
88k have died from pneumonia. Is that a big or small number?

@eladar saidYou keep using fake stats. The virus only starting killing in the US in March, but you insist on citing total year figures. You know that is phony and do it for propaganda purposes. You also know the CDC figures trail real world data by weeks.

Basically, you are lying constantly. And there isn't any data suggesting that the people who COVID are killing would have "died soon" unless by soon you mean within a decade or more - in NYC 25% of the deaths were of people under 65, for example (https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/imm/covid-19-deaths-confirmed-probable-daily-05172020.pdf) and besides I've already showed you mortality table figures that even people who are 80 in the US can expect to live 8 to 9 more years.

@eladar saidAccording to the CDC, here's the excess number of deaths per week this April:
According to the CDC the United States has experienced over 83k deaths due to pneumonia.
Any empathetic people out there letting people know about the pneumonia deaths?
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/COVID19/
Week ending April 4th: 18.6-22.6%
Week ending April 11th: 30.8-35.5%
Week ending April 18th: 27.0-31.4%
Week ending April 25th: 15.6-19.7%

@eladar saidIt seems likely to me that a lot of these deaths being counted as pneumonia this year are actually COVID related; the death toll from pneumonia has consistently been around 50,000 a year in the US (https://www.thoracic.org/patients/patient-resources/resources/top-pneumonia-facts.pdf #4) yet this year there are 83,000+ reported deaths from the condition already with the CDC saying about 1/3 occurred in patients also with COVID according to Eldy's source.

@no1marauder saidThe CDC makes the official stats not you. Many would argue the low flu count is due to flu deaths being counted as covid. But once again the CDC makes the official counts.

83k pneumonia deaths go without notice.
97 percent expected deaths and covid is driving up the death count above normal.
The numbers do not support the hype.
@eladar saidI bet you cannot wait for a vaccine to come online and eliminate all covid deaths then you can thumb your nose at the panic merchants and explain why we didn’t need a vaccine.
@HandyAndy
And cars, do not forget about cars.
The question is why are the covid death numbers being hyped while pneumonia deaths are comparable but totally ignored?
No answer for that?
I understand it’s not easy keeping a pace with trumps idiocy in order to make him look smart, but your getting there elader, don’t give up now.

@handyandy saidI heard gun violece went down due to the lockdown.
@Eladar
How about all the people killed by gun violence. Don't forget about them.

@the-pickled-walrus saidA time of crisis is usually a time when people rally around their leader. Many heads of government around the world have seen their popularity surge as a result. It hasn't happened for Trump (although his approval hasn't tanked either), because Trump is a moron and his administration's handling of the pandemic has been farcical.
They always blow everything way out of proportion in an election year when the incumbant is running for re-election.
@rank-outsider saidIf I recall correctly, he told wolfgang that on June 1st, there would be more deaths in New Zealand than the US due to COVID.
@Eladar
You prediction was ‘not even close to 60,000 deaths’. And the virus would disappear in May.
Do you now accept you were wrong, or will you be comparing C-19 deaths to cancer deaths in a few months time?
EDIT: Correction it was July 4th. https://www.redhotpawn.com/forum/debates/ventilators-in-time.184749

@rank-outsider saidLol, and the top British experts predicted 2.2 million. My guess was better than their models!

83k deaths from pneumonia, not a word about this in the media. Somehow Covid deaths are so terribly high, but pneumonia? Crickets lol.

@eladar saidIn 2017 there were less than 50k deaths to pneumonia. What changed?

How about people not getting medical help for fear of covid?
Tell me, where is the coverage?
@kazetnagorra saidI think Americans don't place stock in their "leadership" like the rest of the world, because political "leadership" does not exist in a nation of free people. The positions of Trump and the rest of the people in politics in America exist to serve the will of people. People in American politics are mostly experts in the game of politics, nothing more. They are not uniquely qualified to "lead" anything.

"government of the people, by the people, for the people"
does not equal
"government of the leaders, by the leaders, for the people"

@ponderable saidAnd I wonder how this has affected the illegal drug trade.
I heard gun violece went down due to the lockdown.
a lot of low wage earners now have no income, as they are typically the first to be laid off. And if crime is down, that indicates they are not stealing as much.
Maybe it's a good time for them to quit the habit.
