If we just function in a normal manner, in another year or two people will generally be immune to covid just like all other flu like viruses.
Get the jab and hope to not get sick or just get sick naturally without the jab. A person is free to choose, or should be.
@eladar saidFirst of all, we don't want people to continue dying from COVID until that happens.

Secondly, we can't guarantee "general immunity" just by continuing to exist. There's no telling how this virus may mutate. We don't want even deadlier strains to evolve.
@vivify saidFirst of all, getting a vaccine prevents death. The only people who will die in greater numbers are the ones who chose to not get vaccinated.

If it was their choice, why is it any of your business?
What flu like virus has not simply faded away as a major threat to people? Name one. How about the outbreak of Hong Kong Flu?
@vivify saidif biden is doing so good why are we even talking in this thread?
Over 320 million doses have been given since Biden took office.
Some "failure".
@eladar saidLook at the OP. The CDC is recommending masks even for vaccinated people due to new variants like Delta. The refusal to get vaccinated affects even those who've chosen to get one.

@vivify saidPersonally, I think masking young people is counterproductive.

Even though I do not think masks are useful, I will wear them if my job requires me to do so.
@vivify saidwhat did the CDC say the science was on this new requirement?

@mott-the-hoople saidYou're the one who brought up Biden, not me.

@vivify saidOf course...now why are we talking about how good he did while at the same time talking his inability to get people vaccinated?
You're the one who brought up Biden, not me.
@mott-the-hoople saidYou brought up blacks not being vaccinated. I posted a CDC link about health inequity.

You fail to realize this is due to systemic issues unfairly affecting minorities, not the president, since it was no different under Trump.
@vivify saidLOL...so now blacks cant get a shot? Do they need an ID or something? LOL

@vivify saidI really wish the CDC would announce some sort of off-ramp here. Unless the recommendation is going to be to mask for life, what metric has to show what number to make us comfortable that vaccinated people are protected? COVID-zero? Not happening. When there can be no more variants? Impossible to tell. Is the CDC going to recommend masks every time seasonal cases go up?

CDC to reverse indoor mask policy, saying fully vaccinated people should wear them indoors in Covid hot spots
Federal health officials still believe fully vaccinated individuals represent a very small amount of transmission ...[text shortened]... in new coronavirus cases and many large employers plan to bring workers back to the office.
@eladar saidYou said this last year and 600.000 Americans died.

@shavixmir saidI have always thought that it would be over in 3 years if we did nothing. That is how ling the Spanish Flu lasted.
You said this last year and 600.000 Americans died.
With our countries regarding the spread, it will just take longer. 80 percent of the dead are 65 or older. It is killing off the weak and the old, which is what viruses do.
