I think Bobby Fischer led a US chess team to a gold medal in the Olympics back in the 60's or mayb the 50's. (???) I don't know if any other olympic games have included chess as an event. Does anybody out there know? For the record, I agree with the general view that chess is not a sport and should not be in the olympics.

And you can't mean that Fischer led the US team to victory in the Chess Olympiad because the USSR won it every time Fischer played (The US won in 1976 and previous to that in 1937).

After watching the proceedings of the current world chess championship, I've been giving some more thought to chess as an olympic sport in regards to how it would be broadcast.
The problem I see with chess being an olympic sport is the fact it has to be marketed to the general population and not just the chess guns like me.
Is it possible to commentate a grandmasters battle at a level of a beginner chess-player?
