Sorry, you can't write a post so obviously an Appeal to Emotion as your prior one was and then pretend emotions have no part of your beliefs.
Value is not the same as emotion, despite any shared aspects. It's easy to make decisions sealed off from reality, to forgive and forget when the losses are someone else's. That is not the nature of justice. The nature of justice is to assume the loss is personal, and conversely, that the person causing the loss is self.

I'd prefer something was done to prevent people from getting killed instead of acting after it happens. But hey, everyone is free to have his own opinion on the trade-off dead people vs. freedom to drive while drunk.

But, like a lemming you are willing to follow the same course?
It's always amusing to read religious nuts rant about the failure of human reason while they are typing away at their computer.

Virtually all of Man's "failures" were caused by an abandonment of Reason often because of an irrational belief in an anthromorphic God. True believers like yourself always seem to think He (it's almost always a He) wants Group A to do something particulary stupid or venal to Group B and his will must be done.

This is a poor analogy. Buying a lottery ticket in a benign act--it hurts no one. One who wins it is indeed lucky, but not better than another.

A person caught for DUI, or assault, or whatever other transgressions have been brought into this post have committed heinous crimes. As such they should be punished.

As to your "luck" factor, I too would rather keep people from driving drunk than have to deal with the death and aftermath of a horrible crash. But we live in a free society, and as such, we must accept the danger that accompanies it. Many times, a drunk WILL drive home and get there safely. He's not better than the poor schmuck who committed vehicular homicide with a BAL of 0.18, just luckier.

I made the analogy because a couple of pages back you said you considered a person who had less luck (and because of that killed more people) worse. I quote:

Bart: Why ? The difference between a drunk driver who kills 0, 1 or 3 persons is the amount of luck he has. Does a difference in luck make a person worse ?
PinkFloyd : I would say so.

Now you're saying the exact opposite
"He's not better than the poor schmuck who committed vehicular homicide with a BAL of 0.18, just luckier."

Are those your ass' real teeth or are they dentures? Prior to capping off about some imagined group of bone-nosed savages intent on sacrificing something, anything that moves will do, perhaps you could spend at least a little time in research.

Said research will yield the promising good news that Group A simply wants you to join them in worship of the decidedly un-anthropomorphic being known in most circles as God.

...you must mean stupid venal things like loving your neighbor as yourself, and showing long-suffering and patience and kindness and other such worthy social attributes....

Good call. Things like the nuclear bomb and machine guns were definitely caused by a belief in god. Also, candy bars, fast food, power plants that emit co2.

How is it that technology that benefits, is attributable only to reason, but when that rational inventiveness is used destructively then God takes the rap.

Such attributes were part of Man's natural state long before the fictional beings folks like Freaky believe in were conjured up out of Man's imaginations.

I suggest you re-read my post as I hardly gave God any "rap" at all. It would be irrational to blame something that doesn't exist (at least in the form Freaky believes) for anything.

Man has always been " religious".
Mans "natural state" as you put it ,is spiritual in nature.

Loving your nieghbour as you love yourself simply because they are your neighbour has never, ever been a natural attribute, nor is it a desirable or sustainable attribute. Anyone that puts there fellow mans attainment of happiness, wellbeing etc on the same level as their own is doomed to a life of:

-misery. The ideal can never be realised which leads to
-dishonesty i.e. lying to one self, which leads to
-insanity.
