@no1marauder saidOh, I certainly don’t disagree that diversity is better for a workforce. Or even better for a society.
The evidence says "yes":
"Businesses must provide diversity training in the workplace. It’s essential to hire and retain the best talent, maximize their markets, and avoid nasty such as bad publicity and costly lawsuits. For example, companies that train on ethnic diversity show 35% better than national average financial returns, according to a study by McKinsey on 366 ...[text shortened]... rbes.com/sites/theyec/2022/10/11/the-importance-of-diversity-and-inclusion-training/?sh=62c39d97cff0
Absolutely agree.
It certainly stimulates creativity and understanding, generally leading to a better product.
What can be debated though is diversity training. The effectiveness of which, I’ve witnessed is, ironically, diverse.
It leads to polarization.
And some very strange discussions.
An example from where I work.
A group of “activists” (a term the pro and anti groups use to label them) demanded that all toilets be gender neutral.
Obviously an equally vocal group opposed this woke business.
In my role at the time, I needed to explain that wokeness has nothing to do with gender neutral toilets (with the anti-fraction not comprehending what I was talking about).
Me explaining that a few gender neutral toilets is a realistic and smart goal.
And me explaining about women’s rights’ in the last 100 years, that many women don’t feel safe (1 in 7 having been abused by men at some point in their life) and that they deserve their own toilets as well.
The pro-group then goes on to explain to me that by having women own toilets, I was excluding a group from safety.
To which I had to explain that diversity means you have to accept other people’s wishes, as well as your own. And that their demands were not diverse in the least.
I guess that one good point about diversity training is that it drags people and opinions out of the woodwork and it makes people very vocal.
It does not make them more rational though.

@shavixmir saidWe would be better off not trying to make people tolerant in a diverse workplace or anyplace else, who want to just be tolerated? What should be pushed is respect, we can disagree and be respectful, but it is harder as this place shows. 🙂

@kellyjay saidIf you've ever gone through diversity training, that's basically what it is in a nutshell. Respect.

Some folks don't have it, and in my experience respect cannot be taught to adults in a workplace setting.
@rajk999 saidSo what?
Your very first couple sentences tells me you are a madman and cannot properly respond
You said I disagree with you. The rise in single parent families, especially among certain minority groups, is not due to a lack of religious faith.
Who the hell mentioned 'religious faith'
Next the perverts are trying to change the kids, and indoctrinate people into their lif ...[text shortened]... ing back. They are child molesters.
No.. we are not leaving them alone. We are coming after them.
You people have shown the same hatred of PETA or GreenPeace. Get a grip.

@wildgrass saidAre you respectful? Did the training help you?

@rajk999 saidWell that’s what Fascist pigs do, they come after people they consider different, they are also well know for indoctrinating children into their sick and feeble doctrines.

Fortunately they often end up hanging upside down from a lamppost or dead from their own hands before justice can catch up with them. Have you got a preferred option?

@wildgrass saidyou people are idiots…respect can never be “taught”

respect is earned through your actions

@mott-the-hoople saidWhich is why you have 0 of it.

@kellyjay saidI totally agree. I also do not like the word "tolerance". To tolerate something or someone has a pejorative side. Being respectful, showing respect is preferable.

@phranny saidTolerance is correct notwithstanding your dislike for the word.

Respect is earned, as everyone knows.
In a work environment some people are simply tolerated but not respected.
So you cannot force yourself to respect but you can force yourself to tolerate
It has been decades now that homosexuals came out and people mostly did not really care either way. It was only when the following happened it became an issue
- changing of schools sex education teaching them how to be gay
- classes designed to encourage kids to change sex
- celebrating their perversions publicly
