@wildgrass saidWildgrass, find that in today's senators... LOL! Never.
An ancient relic compared to Mitch McConnell's warchest. He refused to spend any significant money to win re-election. 'I think fully two-thirds of the senators could get re-elected without spending a penny," he declared. He financed his own campaigns. Usually his campaign budget was well under $200 and some of that money went for postage to return money his constituents had donated to him.

nice one, ATY. Wildgrass is sure to have a vid of his own now 😆
Did you know that Guantanamo Bay only has 40 prisoners left, and they cost the US more than a half-billion dollars a year?
@wildgrass saidA little deceiving, isn't it? The US will run Guantanamo Bay whether or not there are any prisoners.
No videos from me.

Here we go again. The fiscal conservatives are complaining that we're not spending enough money we don't have... SHEESH! Do they even recognize the hypocrisy?

Our military spends like drunken sailors... just like any other government program. They don't need most of that budget to keep them ready and well-equipped. It's mostly a jobs program.
@athousandyoung saidStealth tech is independent of the computers. But just to clarify, are you saying that if a foreign government hacked into our Pentagon they would not know if we had F-35's in the air or where they were located?
Yes stealth is independent of the computers.
Does the Pentagon know? Wouldn't the location of these jets be on a computer?
@wildgrass -Wouldn't the location of these jets be on a computer?
They shouldn't be. I've been saying this for years and years. Why must these defense computer be connected to the internet?
WHY???
@wildgrass saidSo you prefer F16s because you think they can hide from their commanders on the off chance some enemy hacks our defense networks?!

Guess what? An enemy can also intercept our radio communications! Maybe our troops should stop using radios!
@earl-of-trumps saidThey aren't! They have their own separate network.

@athousandyoung saidATY, I remember 'back in the day' when all this was new, and they caught a 14 y/o German kid using an apple computer

breaking into pentagon computers. Maybe it was not internet, it may have been just with the use of a modem.
But it did make international headlines, of course.
That was a long long time ago and we can see that the US learned NOTHING from it.
Teenager hacks into US Pentagon websites and gets THANKED for finding gaps in security - 05:34, 18 JUN 2016UPDATED09:43, 18 JUN 2016
The 18-year-old was one of two people praised by Secretary of Defense Ash Carter at the Pentagon on Friday.
Carter said: "We know that state-sponsored actors and black-hat hackers want to challenge and exploit our networks.
"What we didn't fully appreciate before this pilot was how many white hat hackers there are who want to make a difference."

there are tons of such links

A British teenager who got a D grade in A-level computer science was fined yesterday for hacking into United States defence and missile systems and removing files on artificial intelligence and battle management.

Still have not found the original German child getting caught breaking into Pentagon computers but you get the point.

@athousandyoung saidI wouldn't say I prefer F-16's were all things equal but they are a lot cheaper.
So you prefer F16s because you think they can hide from their commanders on the off chance some enemy hacks our defense networks?!

The optimal offensive strategy assumes that your opponent knows. And again, while I agree with you that stealth is extremely cool technology I fail to see the applicability in our era of drones, satellites and hackers. Hacking into your enemies energy grid, military network, municipal water systems etc. have the potential to do way more damage than a hundred of these planes can.
Manned jets are not the future of warfare.
@earl-of-trumps saidI cant find the link but remember hearing just last month an amateur hacker made it into the water utility of a mid size city in Florida and literally poisoned the water of the whole city. Luckily it was caught very quickly and the hacker did not make permanent changes but a concerted effort over a much larger area by an enemy could be devastating.

These local areas don't have the funds to beef up cybersecurity. Why? Because it's all siphoned off in order to build shiny jets that don't do anything.
@wildgrass -
Because it's all siphoned off in order to build shiny jets that don't do anything.
Well, I wouldn't quite go that far, WG, but when was the last time our jet fighters went head to head with enemy jet fighters?
I'm thinking Vietnam. Maybe I'm wrong but the point being, jets fighting enemy jets is such a low probability event
of happening that we cannot put all that money into that one aspect of combat. My opinion
