The album ends with a whisper: “ There is no dark side of the moon, really. Matter of fact it's all dark.”
@metal-brain saidNobody can own the moon, if you can get there and have nothing better to spend your time and money on you can go there, no one can stop you.
I never understood that album name. The dark side is not always dark. The moon day lasts as long as it's rotation around the earth because it is tidally locked. 28 earth days.
Here is a decent article. It was NASA Administrator Bill Nelson that lost his mind.

@shavixmir saidYou don't expect Metal to have actually listened to the album, have you? Or to have understood a word of the bits he has heard?

@metal-brain saidErm, no. China is a signatory to the Outer Space Treaty and is now moving to trample all over it. That is a genuine reason to raisr some heckles.
The USA just hates to be behind them and are afraid if China manufactures on the moon they could dominate space in general in the long term. That is why some Americans are freaking out in much the same way they did over Sputnik.
@shallow-blue saidThere is no dark side of the moon any more than there is a dark side of the earth.

It’s the ultimate high ground so I cannot imagine the US letting them take it without a really cool space fight
Robert Heinlein novel adapted to screen, the first big budget technicolor sci-fi movie. It is still entertaining AF
The General's speech about getting to the moon first is priceless, I'll get back on where to see it . (Edit...watch from 16:30)

@jj-adams saidCool, JJ. Only a 2-minute segment, but alas, Kev and McHill and probably Marauder will pick the discussion apart. It is true, of course, but these turkeys have never once been in agreement on anything with us. They will say it is all wrong!!

Of course, there are things that I don't know either, no one is perfect. I have looked up 'meme' and I still have no idea what a meme is.
@averagejoe1 saidWRONG AGAIN
Several news stories on it, China denies it. Maybe you science bloggers can enlighten us.

I think the fear is that China could hoard the water on the moon and deny it to others. The moon has great value as a fueling station. Once they have enough spacecraft around the moon they could do what the Portuguese did to deny people passage to the spice islands, a blockade.
It could become a fuel monopoly of sorts. It would cost too much to rocket it up from earth. It would be way too expensive to go to the asteroid belt for precious metals unless you buy it from China. The water on earth is supposedly from asteroids so there is water on some of the asteroids too, but it is a long trip without fueling at the moon first. Kind of like a western trip around the world to find an alternative passage to the spice islands.
The race is on to hoard moon water. It is extremely valuable.

‘Destination MOON’
The first series of ‘Space Force’ gives this topic the comedy edge it warrants, it’s actually weird how close the thread title is to the central theme of the show.
I do hope Joe hasn’t watched it and confused it for a documentary.
