@metal-brain saidPromising right wing fanatics things he couldn't deliver got him into this mess, nor coming up with a deal which temporarily averted a government shutdown - which was supported by a large majority in the House.
Negotiating with Democrats is what got him in this mess.

@no1marauder saidRepublicans are the majority in the house. Are you claiming some republicans would not have backed him up?

What have democrats gained from ousting McCarthy? Will they be happy with the next speaker of the house? I doubt it.
@metal-brain saidWas it Napoleon who supposedly said " Never interrupt your enemy when he is in the process of destroying himself?"

The Republicans are now bitterly fractured.

If the next speaker of the house is a democrat you can say you told me so.
Until then don't make me laugh.
@metal-brain said(Shrug) We'll see how it plays out but no Democrat believes they will get a Speaker before 2025 which the latest Republican clown show makes more likely.

@metal-brain saidHaven’t you figured it out yet dummy the far right pro trump freedom caucus got rid if him because he managed to avoid the shut down that they wanted more than any deal no matter how sweet it seemed to the average Republican
My point is that if he did he would have appeared to be a puppet of the democrats. Then all the republicans would have voted against him. He was doomed either way.

@metal-brain saidMY point is that McCarthy set himself up to fail, by changing the rules for bringing a motion to vacate. He signed his own death warrant when he agreed to Gaetz’s demand that a single aggrieved person would be able to force a vote of no confidence. That was Gaetz’s condition for voting for McCarthy to assume the Speakership last time, and it was exactly that which sank McCarthy this time. McCarthy has only himself to blame that he does not have consensus in his own party; he’s allowed a radical faction to use extortion to get what it wants.

@moonbus saidSure, McCarthy promised certain things and did not follow through with that promise. He is a lying POS and Gaetz called him on his BS. McCarthy proved himself to be an establishment tool.

Common sense.
Try it sometime.
Better luck next time.

@moonbus saidExtra, Extra, read all about it... From what I hear the rumblings are this rule will need changing before anyone else will willingly stick their neck up above the parapet.

@kmax87 saidLooking at him go, I did wonder given that it took 15 votes before he was confirmed speaker of the house, that he might have been given more than one vote to cut him down, but dems the breaks I s'pose
