Why do liberal Europeans have a caustic dislike (to hatred?) of USA?

* USA is equally split liberal & conservative. Does this indicate the dislike is not political?
* Has this dislike come to the fore since the fall of USSR?
* Do recent elections in Germany & France indicate an abrupt change in attitude from previous decades?
* Has this EU political change occurred due to Putins’ revitalization of Russia’s military re-build?

I'd class myself as a relatively liberal European, but as for a "caustic dislike" of the US, I'd have to say I can't really identify it. Which liberal Europeans are you basing this on? Maybe you in the US would like to think you're the underdogs or something, I continually hear about this "the EU hates the US" but I don't know where it comes from.
True, we have a different view to gun laws, we are less gung ho about foreign military action and more proactive in ecological matters, but if we didn't we wouldn't really be a different country, would we.
I think you're confusing an attitude of "No, I don't want to kiss your ass and call it candy" with one of hatred. There's a difference.
We are an independant Union with our own outlook, that's it, I wouldn't get to worked up about it.

Sorry to speak on Huckleberry hounds behalf here, I'm sure he'll post something here himself, but to me it sounds more like you've a chip on your shoulder about something.
Get a beer, some friends, and maybe it'll work itself out.

I don't drink, got a lot of friends, but I'm a little disgusted with Europe lately. Maybe it's because I spent many a night on the Czech/German border during my two tours of duty there when I was in the Army. You know thinking how we were supposed allies and such and then the Germans and French (no suprise there) left us hanging after 9-11. Also I think my Italian Mother would also be disgusted in the way Europe has changed.

There's that chip on the shoulder I was talking about. How about you try to base your misgivings on reality rather than on some romantic notion on what alliances count for.

I bash the americans ?

Sometimes, but definitely not on every turn. I've agreed with merc on several occasions, and support the troops in Iraq. Maybe you're just a little "forum punch drunk" matey.

I don't think that the USA is seen as balanced between liberal and conservative. Some of your points are factors but minor in terms of the policies of Bush.

The political changes in france and Germany are more to do with the disatisfaction of the previous gov. of their Countries. both countries have seen massive changes and hug migration problems as well as tax increases. People care more about their lives that the US policy.

Putin is a worry but even in the dark days of the soviets, France was quite happy to suck up to them big time. Why should Putin worry them?

I have never bashed slimjim, although i sometimes find his xenaphobic arrogance noticable. I am intelligent enough to know that the worst aspects of an individual or group, are not iherant traits of a whole country....something others find harder to grasp.
