I worry about the fate of the protestors but I also worry about their fate if they don’t stand up and defy the state in some way.
It’s a fact that the most oppressive states are the very ones that should be demonstrated against. It’s impossible to know what effect the Demonstrations combined with serious international sanctions might have in terms of pressure on Putin from within the regime itself. These are not ideologues they are self serving disciples of mammon.

I remember it the plight and betrayal of the marsh shite Arabs and the northern Kurds was particularly bad.
I don’t think that the Russian demonstrators care either way about outside support, a lot of them don’t appear to be particularly enamoured of Navalny either. I think his treatment was a catalyst for demonstrators who have simply had enough of in your face corruption at a time when their living standards have dropped significantly for a number of reasons.

You never said "Americans lack the interest", Lia-watha.
You inferred that Americans are too stupid to learn another language.

So lets get back to it, mZ. Racist...
What segment of American society is academically lacking the most, making all Americans look stupid?

And speaking of sTOpID, Lia-watha...
America is a very large nation of 330 million people, and we only have one country
bordering America that is non-english speaking. And if you lived in Michigan, Wisconsin, Oregon etc, you never even heard of Mexico.

In Europe, may people speak three languages because they are quite close to the native speakers.

There's your answer, MO RON.

Just so you'll know,

The Russian people voted "yes" to a proposal to allow change to the constitution so that Putin
can have more terms as president, so they are partly to blame for their own predicament.

It is when a slick politician like a Putin gets more time to learn the ins and outs of what s/he
can do with his power that they are at their most dangerous.

That is exactly where Putin is with Russia right now. Filthy rich, corrupt and self absorbed as it gets.
