@shavixmir saidGotta pay the rent so we don’t end up like all these wretched homeless lining the streets
What’s the point of working if you don’t get weeks and weeks of holiday to enjoy?

@averagejoe1 saidHmmm, yeah, and while we're
Of course, paid leave would be contractual with your employer. It should not be mandated by the govt, there is no provision for such. It should DEF be offered by an employer, being healthy as you suggest.
Historically, I believe it has been two weeks, but again, it is up to the parties. Europe seems to get along with much longer,, even 5 weeks, but if you start with ...[text shortened]... ut how much time he would spend NOT working. Not my kind of guy. Well, gotta get off to WORK!! 😉
at it, let's bring back the 7 day,
60 hour workweek...
Who needs paid vacations anyway?
We don't need time and a half for overtime
after 40 hours, that's a useless Federal law.
And while we're at it, who needs a minimum wage law?
We could all work for less than average Iike joe~!

@shavixmir
I imagine countries with higher taxes look after the people more.
You're country, The Netherlands ranks 7th.
This list of the top 15 countries with the highest taxes doesn't include the USA.
(I'm not sure how low they rank)
So you have Americans paying low taxes and complaining about "the high taxes!"...
They also want more social programs without raising taxes...which is impossible I believe.

@jimm619 saidI'll answer what you just wrote. Pure logic.
Oh, we can go on holidays,
but we don't get paid.
Benevolent employers often
grant paid sick days and vacations.

First, as I said, it is contractual with your employer. This is not about the government, you seem to confuse the two. This issue is your and your employer. You decide with them how much leeeaaaavvvve you get. I think that this ends the entire discussion.
Next stop...Behind closed doors with your employer.
@averagejoe1 saidLet's start with the massive selfishness and go from there.
C'mon, Shav what in the world wrong could you possibly find with these concepts ?
You know, it's the unions in this country that got most workers the benefits they take for granted. Now, thanks to the Republicans, many states have become hostile to the unions. Worker satisfaction has since decreased in pace.
@suzianne saidGo for it, change the issue. Change the Post, change the threads.

If i walk into a biz owner’s office…, he makes Christmas Cards, 19 employees. After we discuss what i can do for him, and his company for me, we strike a deal. Actually, i have to leave every day at 3:20 for my kids, he was ok with that. Contractual agreement.
Now, Sue, what fault do you find here? I am REALLY missing something, i assume?
And why do you mention unions??, Starbuck, Amazon, THEY dont have unions. If the kids want unions, there are unioned companies who would love to have them.
Suzianne?

@sonhouse saidVery high taxes.
@shavixmir
I think it is like that in Japan also.
I think Sweden is the only one higher 🤔

@averagejoe1 saidMaybe, if you have a union.

But we both know your party
is a union buster....
Negotiate a contract indeed,
what a maroon.

@averagejoe1 saidHey Genius, it's about paid leave.
Note how often the liberals on this forum mention government. Foremost in posts.
ALL OF THE INDUSTRIALIZED NATIONS
IN THE ENTIRE WORLD HAVE PAID LEAVE.
Do you presume that, in each of these countries,
someone sat down with their employer and negotiated
a contract, as you cynically, advocate or do you suppose
THAT THE GOVERNMENT MANDATED THEY DO THE RIGHT THING~!?

@contenchess saidYes. We do pay a lot of tax.
Very high taxes.

But, we’ve got the best infrastructure in the world, although a large part of the country is below sea level (which is rising) we have excellent water management, and to a good extent, we take care of people who need it.
That’s got nothing to do with paid vacation though.
In the Netherlands you have the right to at least 4 weeks paid vacation, 2 of which the employer must allow to be taken consecutively; if the employee so wishes.
And there’s a 42 hour maximum work-week (with exceptions, various compensation rules, etc.), and 5 or 6 obligatory days off (which if you have to work, have to be compensates with time, not money).
Generally, you work to live. You don’t live to work.
The mere idea of less than 8 weeks vacation a year would stress me out.
I love driving around Europe. Why the hell bother working, if I wouldn’t get the time to do it?

@shavixmir saidEverything is up in the air daily-changing under Biden though, so there is no way to discuss it. His free money (the precursor of UBI) stopped today, Dec 15, so that alone, together with inflation thru the roof, will cause quite a change in the landscape.

What change, you ask? Less money in their pockets, while at the same exact moment, inflation continues to rise. Double negative. Downer for Biden....or may I re-phrase,,,,,downer for whoever is running him.
