@shavixmir saidA person can and should negotiate time off and vacation. Don’t be like the irascible Jimm person, please. I even say above that I WOULD hire a person that works out leaving at 3:20. Paid ‘off’ days are necessary, they just need to be agreed-upon, and have a nice business relationship. However during an interview, if that is an overwhelming concern of an applicant, “ how much can I be off” my brain would be saying why doesn’t this person say how much can I work and get ahead?? So I would not hire that applicant. When I began working, I didn’t take time off for 2 years, even though I was allowed the 2 weeks. It resulted in my getting ahead of contemporaries and succeeding. I preach it to my grandkids. Picture me working, while Pierre in France heads off to the seashore for 5 weeks! I’ll win!
You did. You said you wouldn’t hire that person.

@AverageJoe1
Next, the lib govt will REQUIRE everyone to all take the SAME vacation so that everything will be faaaaaaiiir, no person can get ahead of another. I say that to be funny, but I can see that many posters here would think that that is a good idea.
@jimmac saidThey are not unlike the mafia. Also, I personally think that an employee, knowing he is all 'safe and secure' with the Nanny Union watching over him and making all his decisions for him (creepy), will start to slack off knowing there will likely be no consequences. As this guy's Line Boss, I would see that, and never give him a raise nor advance him. Sounds mean, I know.
heard a story some time ago about the auto union ( in USA ) buying up shares to get on the boards ( I suspect via super funds ) and then shafting the workers. I doubt unions these days actually help the workers, Collectively. Though they can be helpful in the event of an individuals circumstance.
In Australia, A Paul Keating negotiated, or rather brought in what was called ...[text shortened]... thats the way it is.
Unions only care about there own entity and maybe some face saving exercises.
My point is, I do not agree that Unions are totally a good thing. Not by a long shot. I would hate watch those fat cigar smokers spend my dues money. I'd rather spend it myself.
@averagejoe1 saidPierre has a nicer life. But you win.

@shavixmir saidHow do people stay productive if they don’t have proper down time?
The article suggests most US workers get a certain amount of paid leave, but many don’t use it. They’d rather call in sick or use some other excuse.
It doesn’t sound like a very healthy work environment.
How do people stay productive if they don’t have proper down time?
If it were up to republicans, Americans would be working 7 days a week for $5.00 a day with no toilet breaks, no time off, and no leave whatsoever. Let a Democrat try to any of change that, and their called lazy, welfare sucking socialists. Some things never change over here.

@mghrn55 saidDefine nice, i think mine would find me at least as nice-lifed as he, and then add to that some other nice things. Perks abound.
Pierre has a nicer life. But you win.
Got it.
I do wonder though why you would say that he has a nicer life than me. Because he doesn’t work very hard? Work keeps me extremely alive, so I guess we would have to define alive. Or we could just stipulate that Pierre does not like to work, and I do. So where does that leave us?

Please, we know that your
opinion is less than average, joe.
But have you got any facts?

Let's start with the massive selfishness and go from there.
You know, it's the unions in this country that got most workers the benefits they take for granted. Now, thanks to the Republicans, many states have become hostile to the unions. Worker satisfaction has since decreased in pace.

@suzianne saidSelfishness of whom? Who is being selfish. Is there an answer?

You say. ….‘and lets go from there’. So, with all due respects, let’s go from there.

WHY DO YOU NOT STAND BY WHAT YOU SAY?
@averagejoe1 saidJust because people like having 7 weeks of holiday a year doesn’t mean they don’t work hard.

@shavixmir
Not only is it unhealthy to work long hours with little time off, but the longer one works into old age the shorter the lifespan. There are studies done on this. There is a dramatic difference in life expectancy between retiring early and late.
