Reminds me of BLM. Another example of the "celebrity worship syndrome".
While the people of Gaza are struggling for food, water and medical care, Hamas’ wealthy leadership lives luxuriously in Qatar, according to Israeli officials. The terrorist group has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007 after winning parliamentary elections and violently seizing control from the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority.
Now, its top three leaders are worth over $11 billion together, according to reports confirmed by the U.S. Treasury. While there is a web of men who lead the terror organization, Abu Marzouk, Khaled Mashaal and Ismail Haniyeh are the primary heads, each worth billions. Haniyeh, the “prime minister,” does not live in Gaza and allegedly flies between Turkey and Qatar in a private jet.

In 2022 Palestinians were overwhelmingly *against* Hamas, with only 35 percent showing support. But as the article says:
these divergences reflect the rise in attacks by violent Jewish settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank these divergences reflect the rise in attacks by violent Jewish settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank, which have drawn condemnation from the US and Europe
Most Palestinians did not support Hamas until after Israel started violently evicting them from their homes.
@vivify saidIf the Palestinians would wake up and govern themselves, they wouldn't need or be attracted to Hamas.

@vivify saidThe recent violence in the West Bank was apparently committed mostly by Americans who joined in with the soldiers to fight WB gangs. Yes, many were killed. This is the kind of response you get when you kidnap people. You will attract a violent response, often out of proportion to the initial attack.

Most of the attacks on Palestinians over the last 75 years is a result of one thing ... Palestinians do not want Jews to have a state in Palestine. This is stated in the Hamas original charter. This is what they say in surveys. This is the cry is on the streets, 'from the river to the see', is all about.
This is why they are attracted to Hamas.
@moonbus saidI want you to imagine just how easy it would be to form a functioning democracy when the unemployment is 50%, you're almost starving and have no drinking water, you have no idea if you're going to be kicked out of your home and you're against a terrorist organization that has no qualms about using you as a human shield

@zahlanzi saidTough.. they voted for Hamas with their hatred, because their heart is evil. The same way they can strap bombs to their chest and detonate it in a crowded pizza shop in Israel, the same way they can take out Hamas leaders. Did they not jump and dance in the streets with Jews are killed? Did they not drag dead bodies through the streets and celebrated? Those cockroaches deserve no pity.

@rajk999 saidYour post is irrelevant to your OP, which is about Palestinian support for Hamas.

The only reason for rise in support was Israeli violence while illegally taking over Palestinian homes. Most Palestinians were *against* Hamas prior to that.
It's Israel's own fault for their violence and theft that support for Hamas spiked.
@vivify saidYou raised the point about the recent violence in West Bank as the reason for the rise in Palestinian support for Hamas. So all I said that the violence in West Bank is the result of Americans living in West Bank who no doubt retaliated for Hamas taking Americans hostages. Here is the story

The claim that Israel started violence is not correct. Violence started immediately when the Jews started going back to Palestine in the late 1800s at the start of the Zionist movement. Lets say both sides were equally guilty, from that time to 1948. In 1948, there was an opportunity for peace with the UN approved Partition Plan. The Jews accepted and started building their nation, while the Palestinians refused and wanted the war. Nothing has changed.
@rajk999 saidYour link says 60,000 are American. That's out of 700,000 Israeli settlers:

You're trying to shift blame away from Israel to America for the violence. A flawed tactic since Americans make up only 8 percent of Jewish settlers in the West Bank.
Israel's own violence is to blame for Palestinian support of Hamas.

@vivify saidI dont think the ratio of Americans to Jews is the issue here, neither did I say that the Jews were not involved. The Americans play a critical role in settler violence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The article says ...Americans account for only about 15% of the total settler population in the West Bank and East Jerusalem but their influence outweighs their numbers.
@rajk999 saidEven so, Israel's government created policies to illegally remove Palestinians from their homes which Americans settlers are simply following.

Israel's been bulldozing Arab homes since the 60's, long before the Americans your article mentions committed those atrocities:
