I don't know how it works in KIWI LAND, but here, in The US, there are
different jurisdictions, different laws and punishments. Example;
every state does not allow for executions. I live in a state where I can walk
into a store and buy marijuana.........Most states it's illegal
You certain the Judge knows the law?
Not necessarily, many judges, magistrates and
Justice of the Peace, especially, it seems in The South,
ARE ELECTED OFFICIALS, many are appointed.

nominee, need not have a law degree.

Not a bit, I still have no idea how you can conclude that the judge must be racist when you where not there and do not have the same "facts" that the judge has. To me, your default response is warped. I suspect that it was, even before reading up on it, your 1st thought. rather sad if thats the case. Even allowing for the possibility that the judge was wrong. racist? I think you doth protest to fast.
BTW, I hold no opinion on this case, have not read it, do not care, the waters are to muddy to understand when you are there, in court, yet alone from here in Aussie. To many people hold to many opinions on to many issues they know little to nothing about, and they seem to present them as " facts ". Bit sad really.

BTW, I state here and now that I am totally against any concept of segregation and I firmly distance myself from his opinion in that regard. I hate racism. I have a Rarotongan Brother-in-law that I consider a fantastic roll model. I have a good sri-lankan friend, My son wants to marry a Guatemalan Girl and I wish him all the best. I simply hate the demeaning status of insisting that they are victims that needs some sort of sympathy. rather sad. If you keep insisting they are victims you in fact bring them down, not lift them up.
