The issue here is that the ideological (is that the right word?) descendents of the Nazis still exist and are still dangerous. They were probably highly inspired by this event.
Come to think of it, anyone who thinks anyone seriously dangerous could be inspired by a costume party is probably in more need of attention... 😉

Even if one of them takes this as some kind of covert support for their ideology from the monarchy, then they've gained.
Its not about whether it was at a costume party or whatever - he wore a nazi uniform, complete with swastika. It doesn't matter the circumstances - it was a stupid thing to do.

Someone who was of any actual significance, who thinks of arryans a pure "breed", is far more likely to denounce the wearing of a nazi uniform to a costume party...
Only those who are just "fond" of nazism, harken to it because it reminds them how the world used to be or because they are just mildly racist, would be likely to take it as any kind of "inspiration".

There is nothing wrong with the act itself. However he is a public figure and a distinct member of a royal family and he should behave according to his status. That's the price to pay for being royalty, IMO.
Can you imagine the Queen of England dressing as a vampire?

Or are you really incapable of putting yourself in their shoes and seeing with their eyes? If you do that, you'd see they aren't a threat...they cant be. Them being "inspired", whether by a costume party, celebrating hitler's 116th birthday or just being the proud owner of a german WWII gun, is of absolutely no consequence.
If that's all their pathetic little lives amount to, far better to leave them to it than stir the hornets nest.
Now, is there anyone who cares to guess why pretty much everyone who posted in this thread (even me) is just as pathetic?

Nobody is actually suggesting that wearing this costume makes the wee tw*t a nazi.
The point is that it is phenomenally irresponsible for someone in his position. Because of his priveleged postion, he can't be like any other 20 year old. He knows his every move could end up on the front page of the tabloids, and yet he does this.

On the one hand we claim that Harry is no different to any of us, just where he is through accident of birth. On the other we have expectations of how he should behave because of who he is.
If Robbie Williams or Colin Farrell had dressed as a Nazi for a party, the pics would be in the papers, a few people might be outraged, but the vast majority of us would have laughed at their cheeky behaviour.
So Harry is a Royal - so what? It's a fancy dress party. It doesn't matter who you go as, whether it's Napoleon or a Viking. It doesn't signify anything. It doesn't make you irresponsible or mean you have made a mistake.
Jesus Christ, I despair of the people of this country with their media-fuelled false indignation.

And kirk!!! Fer' cryin' out loud! I ain't goin' back to framing houses just to teach a spoiled kid the meaning of life. Besides, his life and mine are not convergent. My meanings and purposes are as alien to him as his are to me. My ultimate goal is to "end up". His is to "end up on top".
Considering the history of the Royal family and its ties to facist Germany, I reckon the dashing young prince could have shown a little more taste.
However, it was a costume party and I thought it was quite funny and ironic him turning up as a nazi. Actually quite amusing.
It reminded me of Erik Cartman turning up to Halloween dressed as Adolf Hitler; the teacher freaking out and dressing him up as a ghost...but making him look like a Klu Kluxer instead.
Prince Harry is one car crash away from being our king.
His biological father a sad ginger cad figure who appears on hopeless reality TV Shows. His mother was a pretty but pretty vacant woman who couldn't cope with being a Princess.
I can't wait to sing out the National Anthem loud and proud when he is king!
Originally posted by VargActually, this is plain wrong. I remember the furore a few years ago when Morrisey draped himself in a Union Jack. Half his fans accused him of being a facist and said they'd never buy his records again. We are quite sensitive in this country about right wing imagery, but then I think that's a good thing - the last thing we want is to allow facists like the BNP to enter the mainstream. I can't think of any pop stars idiotic enough to dress up as a Nazi, idiotic as many pop stars are. Members of the Royal Family really do hold all the trump cards when it comes to mindless stupidity.
