@shavixmir saidSame. She was paid far to much but she put a good shift in.
Don’t have much time for the royal family.
But I do feel a little sad she’s gone.
Sort of like a far away auntie who was there all my life.
Oh well. At least the ERII signs won’t be a problem any more.
At times like these it’s useful to remember none of us choose our parents.

@kevcvs57 saidI have always hated seeing the Royal family on TV here in the states. It makes me think I live in a British colony and the corporate news media is pushing them on us. It doesn't help that our presidents went to visit her and groveled at her feet.

They are parasites. They do nothing but take.
@metal-brain saidWell parasites or not they are still a thousand times a better option than a partisan potus as head of state. You think having a partisan potus with superhuman political power who changes hats every four years is a better option?

Give me a powerless figurehead every time and leave the real power with the commoners.

@kevcvs57 saidIf the Royals are powerless figureheads what do you need them for?

@metal-brain saidPublic holidays, the upkeep of historically important buildings, tourism, soft power / soft diplomacy.
If the Royals are powerless figureheads what do you need them for?
The question should be ‘do they do more harm than good’ they are obviously part and parcel of our class system but I think it would survive in their absence, they can be a non partisan figurehead and rallying point, but their biggest pro is the fact we have them instead of some power hungry president who has nothing much to lose by trying to grab as much power and money as they can whilst in office. Royalty is a job for life anyway.

@jimm619 saidYes she’s provided us with as soft a landing as she could.

Truly a link between eras.

@mott-the-hoople saidNo we have just got a new prime minister, more analogous with the speaker of the house or house majority leader. We do not have a president but Boris tried to act like one, hence his departure.

@metal-brain saidFor being a figurehead. Doh.
