@metal-brain saidIf someone turned up at your mothers funeral shouting there mouth off in protest against her political views or business practices it would be seen as being a breach of the peace which was likely to cause violence and they would be stopped or even arrested.

If their only defence was “it’s my right to protest against that woman and her family” then they would be largely ignored and advised to reevaluate their strategy of getting their opinion heard.
Your protests in this thread make you sound like one of those vegans who think it’s acceptable to superglue themselves to the milk section of supermarkets.

@divegeester saidI didn't show up at her funeral. Her funeral was imposed on me on the news all week.

I am offended by that. We are not British.
@kevcvs57 saidThen you’d like Switzerland. We have a ‘president’ but the position confers no special powers; basically, the President of Switzerland is the one holding the gavel in committee meetings. The real power is vested in parliament and the institutions of direct democracy. For example, parliament has no authority to tax without a plebiscite. If parliament says ‘yes’ and the voters say ‘no’, the no-s have it.
@Teinosuke
If ED is saying that their is no need for a politically powerful president or monarch in a democracy then we agree, for the life of I don’t understand why people elect a democratic chamber and the hand power to president, democratic or otherwise.

I am American, not British and I was not watching BBC News American either.
She was not my queen. When the king of Saudi Arabia dies will he get that much coverage in the American news media?

@metal-brain saidNow you know what it feels like to live in the rest of the world and have American news thrust down our throats all the bloody time.

@teinosuke saidI didn't know it was that bad. I have always lived here in the states. I noticed the BBC News America on PBS reports a lot of American news, but I figured that was because it was meant for Americans.

American propaganda and British propaganda are well aligned. It is pretty much the same BS.
@moonbus saidWell then yes I’m am Switzerland I’d take that presidential arrangement but I would vote yes to more taxation in the plebiscite, is it the same if the Parliament tries to lower taxes at the cost of public spending cuts?

@moonbus saidPositively civil, I'd say
