Footballs fans generally are derided the world over because of their idiotic abusive and sometimes violent behaviour.
We often see the same behaviour from both sides of various arguments in here. The forum hooligans who hurl abuse because the other person holds a different political view.
Tribalism is part of our evolutionary heritage as a species and it is not e ...[text shortened]... just that racism which gets the most column inches.
And we are all guilty of it to some extent.
Look you are subconsciously doing it right here in this post while trying to explain the thing itself!! That’s rich!
@montymoose saidVery good post!
I'm 68 and was born in the deep south, USA.
I grew up in a racist era, a racist town, and a racist family.
The racism was always there under the surface, but it might not show up everyday. The area was segregated as were the schools. Everyone knew that 'DewBerry' was the Black section and Fort Oglethorpe was for Whites. The first time I sat in a school classroom with a ...[text shortened]... protests put fear in people's heart. That fear can still be flamed today as Donald Trump has shown.

I look at those Trump supporters and I loathe them for their destruction of democracy. If they stop doing it I won’t loathe them anymore.
But racism is about hating someone JUST because of their skin colour.

@divegeester saidI hate to break it to you but women in most places do not have small penises.
So women are more racist than men?
Sounds like a version of the Electra complex.

Bit of football fanism here.
Work out the numbers who usually watch the game all round the world every week. Remember the media like to report football related violence from anywhere in the world and then you realise how low the prevalence is. It's nothing compared to Saturday night when the clubs turn out in any English town.
I went regularly in the late 70s and 80s when it was at its height and it was still a minority that you could avoid. These days I happily take my daughters. I've seen next to nothing first hand in 20 years including travelling away to England matches and watching Liverpool in Europe. In fact Liverpool fans are usually welcomed by locals who want to have a drink and sing with us.
I was in Marseilles when England played Russia in 2016 and it kicked off at the other end of the ground with a group of crazy Russians dressed in black attacking people. For me that was weird and isolated (I've watched football regularly for 47 years).
In general sport is a healthy outlet for tribalism with the vast majority knowing where to draw the line. Responsibly run sport leads the way combating racism. LFC are very active in the fight against racism and have helped break down barriers within the local community.

@divegeester Different “isms” but it’s all the same hate energy.
It’s just that racism which gets the most column inches.
