When did the US take over Cuba? Yes, the US tried to influence Cuban politics and helped to put Castro in power at one point, but Cuba was in no way dominated in the same way Russia dominated and mistreated Poland.

There is a reason why Ronald Reagan correctly labeled the USSR "the evil empire". Poland knows what it is like to be under Russian domination and that is the reason why they look to the US for protection. Poland would rather not return to the days of Soviet domination, which is exactly what Russia is working towards at this time.

After the Spanish American war. Read a history book.

You might want to google "the Platt Amendment" as well.

Poland is its own nation. If Poland wants US protection from the Russian Bear, then I say we give it to them.

It is this kind of "the US has no rights to the Western States" point of view that I'm labeling revisionist history ...[text shortened]... The people in cotrol of Russia at this time are simply the continuation of the Soviet Era.
I always find this position fascinating. It seems that your position invites conquest and empire. As long as the empire can hold it a few generations, people like you will defend the conquest.

If Russia were to take and keep Poland your grandchildren might very well condemn Polish rebels as traitors to legitimate Russian rule.

Not all to Poland. Put some in the Baltic countries to keep the damn Russians out! Patton was right in wanting to take on the Russians.
For centuries the Russians have invaded other countries repeatedly no matter what type of government ruled Russia.

Man, the guy Eladar has not a single clue.

Are (alleged) BAs so easy to get these days or what?

Russia held Eastern Europe for almost 50 years and the peoples of those subjugated countries held to their culture.
As someone of Lithuanian descent I can state "You are totally wrong".

Why is Eladar right and I am wrong? Please, tell me. Why is Califonia absolutely American 100% after having been taking in conquest when the same would not be true for Poland after a hypothetical takeover by Russia?

I was born and raised in California. I work in a Los Angeles inner city public school. I'm half chicano and very patriotic about the USA. There are plenty of Mexicans here with a different culture. I'm not biased in favor of Mexico by any means in this issue, but what happened happened.

It's easy to say "we should forget the past" when your country (i.e. Eladar's country of the USA) has profited enormously at another country's expense in the past.

Oh, you're not Lithuanian after all, you're a Texan. No wonder. I misread what you wrote. The takeover of Texas was a blatant conquest, extraordinarily similar to what happened in South Ossetia.

Why is Eladar right and I am wrong?

Because I'm not being blinded by a liberal/leftist worldview?

The weakness and hostility of that response speak for themselves.

Exactly---but I'd send 1/2 to Poland. The other 1/2 should go to Georgia.

Marauder, how do you assess the situation ? Will Georgia and the Ukraïne eventually (.... within a few years or maybe a bit longer) become full NATO members ?
